Abstract

548,951. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. April 28, 1941, No. 5501. Convention date, April 29, 1940. Drawings to Specification. [Class 74 (ii)] A method of knitting a non-curling edge for e.g. a plain hosiery top consists in drawing an elastic yarn so that a plurality of loops thereof will be held at spaced wales or groups of wales and then drawing a non-elastic yarn and casting- off the loops of elastic. Thereafter several courses of non-elastic yarn are drawn while the elastic yarn is laid in at spaced wales and the non-elastic yarn is tucked at intermediate wales. The elastic yarn is drawn over sinker ribs and dropped from the ribs to rest in the sinker throats prior to arrival at the feeding station for non- elastic yarn. The sinkers are selected so that spaced sinkers or. spaced groups of sinkers have elastic yarn drawn over their ribs while the intermediate sinkers are in withdrawn position so that the yarn is drawn forwardly of their nibs.
