Circular knitted ladder resistant fabric, e.g. as shown in Fig. 1 of Specification 989,186 comprises a short thread length course (b) in which all needles knit and a long thread length course (a) in which every second or predetermined needles pass through the feeder at such a height that they hold the stitches of course (b) and receive tuck loops of course (a) on their stems, course (a) being drawn on a higher sinking point than course (b) so that when the succeeding course is knitted, the tuck loops and the held stitches form tuck stitches, the held stitches being enlarged to match the tuck loops and hence robbing thread from the remaining stitches which form locking stitches, the needle selection being altered after every two courses so that tuck stitches in successive courses (a) do not appear in the same wales. Preferably the thread length of course (b) is 70% or less of that of course (a) and this difference is achieved by lowering one needle cam or moving the sinkers inwards further and earlier than usual. As shown, course (a) is drawn on top of the sinker hook p<SP>h</SP> and course (b) is drawn behind the sinker hook on level P<SP>a</SP> or level P<SP>b</SP> if sinker is shaped as shown by the dotted line.
