Abstract
895,672. Knitting. BOOTON Ltd., W. E. Aug. 13, 1958 [Aug. 27, 1957], No. 26947/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2). A two-feed circular machine has provision for rendering one feed operative or inoperative and simultaneously effecting needle selection such that the incoming or outgoing yarn at that feed is tucked on alternate needles thereby avoiding eyelet formation at the point of introduction or discontinuance of the yarn. The yarn is also taken by the intervening needles and knitted by those needles together with the yarn taken but not knitted at the other feed. When it is intended to commence or discontinue using a yarn the stitch cam or part of it at the main feed is partly withdrawn so that the intervening needles of the group take yarn at that feed but do not knit it. The alternate needles on the other hand do knit the yarn at that feed but subsequently neither of the needles of the group are raised to clearing height. At the subsidiary feeder all of the needles of the group take and knit the incoming or outgoing yarn with the result that the intervening needles knit the subsidiary yarn and the main yarn together drawing loops through the previous course loops whilst the alternate needles merely take the yarn at the subsidiary feed and hold it in its hook together with the loop formed at the main feed. Subsequently all the needles of the group are cleared and the next course knitted at the main feed with the result that the end of the yarn is secured in the fabric.
