Abstract
1,004,454. Knitting. W. COTTON Ltd. Nov. 14, 1961 [Nov.18, 1960], No. 39647/60. Heading D1K. A band of 1 x 1 or other rib is knitted on a straight-bar knitting machine and then spaced needles are caused to miss-knit, the loops therefrom having been locked in the fabric, so that a different rib is produced. As shown after knitting a 1 x 1 rib, the loops on every third frame needle are transferred by a point bar to adjacent frame needles with a drop stitch point preventing stitches from being formed on the needles. The spacing of the points may be adjustable or the point bars may be interchangeable. A welt may have a body part knitted on on the same machine and the blank may be fashioned as described in Specification 933,593 and may be started as described in Specification 1,000,292. A series of welts each comprising two types of rib fabric and a roll welt may be knitted, separated by draw threads and waste courses, on one machine and then seperated and run on to a different machine.
