Abstract

994,553. Knitting-machines: fabrics. SCOTT & WILLIAMS Inc. June 10,1963 [June 28,1962], No. 23110/63. Headings D1C and D1K. A tubular rotary knit fabric for stockings (Fig.4) comprises instep (66<SP>1</SP>)and heel (64<SP>1</SP>) forming portions with junction portions (68<SP>1</SP>) extending walewise therebetween characterised in that each course of the junction portion is formed from the yarn from courses 1, II, III and one yarn from the courses I<SP>1</SP>, II<SP>1</SP>, III<SP>1</SP>respectively of the portion 64<SP>1</SP>.In knitting the leg portion is produced as a single feed fabric from yarn M 1 .To produce the portion 68<SP>1</SP>a second yarn (A) is fed from what is normally the second feed, however, it is arranged that this yarn is taken first and held by the needles before the yarn M 1 is taken. In the third portion (64<SP>1</SP>)two yarns, M 1 and M 2 ,are taken at the first feeder and knitted into one course and alternate courses are knitted from the yarn A introduced at the second feeder, a second portion 68<SP>1</SP>is produced on the right hand side of Fig.4 before reverting to single feed knitting. The fabric is produced as a tube made up in part of thermoplastic yarn which is then pre-boarded to the required shape.
