Abstract
834,560. Knitting. NEBEL, M. May 2, 1956 [May 2, 1955], No. 13615/56. Class 74 (2). The reinforced sole and heel or high heel of a circularly knitted stocking are formed of substantially double-length loops A, B, each drawn from the threads a, b forming two consecutive courses of the adjoining fabric, these loops being arranged in partial courses of which two correspond to one course outside the reinforced area, the loops in alternate partial courses being drawn in alternate wales only and the loops in the intervening partial courses being drawn in the intervening wales only. The reinforced area may be fashioned. Auxiliary jacks T<SP>1</SP>, with butts at two different levels, are provided to cause the needles to perform their desired movements. The hooks of those needles which do not knit in any partial course follow path X, thereby cleaving their old loops below their latches and taking yarn, but not knocking over. They remain sufficiently low for that yarn to stay on their open latches; and, in the next partial course, they again take yarn and then form loops from it and the yarn on their latches, moving down the path y to knockover portions. The additional yarn necessary for the formation of the double-length loops is provided by drawing yarn over the upper surfaces Po of the sinker hooks Px, the sinkers being advanced sooner and further than normally, and being selected through pattern jacks M.
