Abstract

796,727. Knitting. NEBEL, M. July 19, 1954 [July 18, 1953], No. 21040/54. Class 74 (2). Of two part courses making up each course of a fabric in which all stitches are drawn to the front face, one part course consists of two threads a, g<SP>1</SP>, which, at alternate wales are knitted together in plating relationship and, at the intravening wales, are respectively tucked and floated behind the normal stitch loops; and the other part course is of two threads b, g<SP>2</SP>, which are similarly knitted together at the intervening wales and tucked and floated at the alternate wales. The component part courses may be staggered, Fig. 1, or superimposed, Fig. 2, along the length of the fabric. At selected wales, the thread a or b may be held and knitted in to form three thread stitches A/C, B/C, being there the plating thread. Weft threads S may be introduced. Differently coloured threads may be used. The fabric may be made on a circular machine having two groups of needles, each with its group of sinkerlike loop transfer members and the needles and members of the one group alternating with those of the other group. That part of the thread to be tucked is formed into a loop over a transfer member which is then withdrawn, holding the loop, out of the needle row until the loop is to be taken into the fabric. The longer loop required in the three thread stitches is formed by feeding the thread over two adjacent transfer members. In order that these longer loops may remain on the open latches, instead of being below them as in the formation of tuck loops, the transfer members on which they are held are of greater height.
