Abstract

889,739. Knitting-machines. HOBOURNF.N.F. Ltd. April 4, 1960 [April 16, 1959], No. 12998/59. Class 74 (2). In a warp knitting machine sinker, that part of the neb projecting beyond the throat 7 is divided into two tips 5, 6 which are face to face and diverge towards their extremities. The parts diverge at equal angles from a central plane containing the remainder of the sinker, which is made from two resilient plates 1, 2 fixed together face to face in one of blocks 9 which are cast around them and bolted side by side to a sinker bar. The tips 5, 6 of each sinker touch those of their neighbours and the spacing of the front ends of the sinkers is maintained by a rod 14 passing through holes 13 in them. The arrangement causes the thread 25 to pass behind and under the tip 5, say, of a sinker when an associated needle is taking yarn in successive courses from the same guide eye in the formation of open loop pillars: thus the sinkers hold these loops down effectively as the needles rise. In addition, when a guide eye laps its yarn around a needle, the resulting thread helix runs from the top edge 30 of the plate 1, say, instead of from the last knitted loop 27<SP>1</SP> in the fabric; and so the helices are laid into the needle hooks at a relatively shallow angle and can pass into the hooks more quickly as the needles move downwardly, so reducing the tendency to mislapping. Specification 889,738 is referred to.
