Abstract
1,108,527. Knitting-machines. S. A. MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd. and I. & R. MORLEY Ltd. 16 Jan., 1967 [5 March, 1966], No. 9731/66. Heading D1C. A machine needle for a straight bar rib machine comprises a tubular member A in which slide two loop retaining members B, having beat end portions 1Oa. The. retaining members are movable to close the hook and abutmensts .10b can carry a held loop over the hook so that they may be cast off. When the ends engage the hook they are forced apart, and enlarge a held loop so that transfer to frame needles is facilitated. The needles enable a roll welt and rib fabric to be knitted, and assist a change from rib to plain knitting. To knit a roll welt alternate needles are lowered and sinker loops caught by the hooks as they fall off, the ribs (Figs. 26-6 not shown), and several courses knitted with the loops retained, on the machine needles. During knocking over the held loops are pushed from behind the bellies 7 into the hooks by the edges 10b and locked by the advanced elements. The sinker loops of the last course are caught in .the hooks and locked by the advanced elements while the held sinker loops of the first course are knocked over (Fig. 36 not shown). Rib knitting may then commence during which new sinker loops are caught and retained in the hooks while loops of the previous course held on the body are knocked over. When plain knitting is to commence the held loops are pushed forward by the elements and spread by the ends. Alternate needles then rise through the loops.
