Abstract

1,268,929. Knitting. E. GORINI. 8 April, 1969 [10 April, 1968], No. 17752/69. Heading D1K. In closing the toe of a stocking on the knitting machine, after a tubular fabric M1 has been knitted on selected needles 1Y, while the stitches are held on remaining needles 1X, a course is knitted in which yarn loops are engaged on welt hooks 3 or the like and a first final flap 15 is knitted and pressed off the operative needles after which the tubular fabric is constricted at its centre to form a closed toe and the yarn loops are returned to the needles and a second final flap 19 is knitted. The toe may be closed by winding a yarn 17A round fabric Ml or by offsetting the dial-flaps 15, 19 may be knitted in a "ladder proof" stitch.
