Abstract

746,278. Knitting. BOOTH, A., and SYMES, E. March 26, 1953 [March 26, 1952], No. 7722/52. Class 74 (2). A main welt 11 and one or more subsidiary welts, e.g. 12, 15, of differing walewise lengths, are provided in a ladies' stocking, the welts having their bottom edges substantially coincident, but being closed along different courses, so that there are no loops common to and penetrating all plies of the main welt and subsidiary welt or welts. The welts may be turned and completed in the order 12, 11, 15, at least one course being knitted after returning the first course of a welt to the needles and before beginning the next welt. Alternatively, after completion of the main welt, separately knitted subsidiary welts may be applied to the needles and knitted-in in the subsequent formation of the stocking; or the main welt may be separately knitted. The welt 15 may be intermediate in length between welts 12 and 11. Ladder-stop courses 14 may be provided. A shorter welt may be inside or outside a longer welt. The welts may differ in colour, shade, or material.
