Abstract

1420231 Knitting W ARNDT 12 Feb 1973 [28 Feb 1972] 6777/73 Heading D1K A knitted edging for a garment comprises a single ply strip terminating in a two ply welt knit on one bed of a flat two bed machine while same loops are retained on the second bed, and concluding with courses of rib fabric. Before knitting the rib courses transfer of loops to the second bed may be necessary. The welt is sewn to a garment edge. A loose or tight course centrally of the welt ensures a neat fold of the welt, the second half of which may be knit from a water-soluble yarn. The welt may be knit of a thinner yarn than the rest of the edging. A second welt or freeedged strip may be knit adjacent the first welt to provide a V-shaped pocket into which the edge of the garment can be inserted.
