Abstract

1,216,532. Tights; stockings; panties. WOLSEY Ltd. 4 March, 1968 [3 March, 1967], No. 10067/67. Heading A3V. [Also in Division D1] In a nether garment, shown inside out in Fig. 1, which embraces the wearer's hips at 12, upper parts of the leg portions 10 are provided with means such as a flange 13 whereby suspenders secured to an open-bottomed foundation garment worn under the garment shown may be attached. The flange may be formed by knitting an extra piece of fabric which is seamed at 14 or by manipulation of the needles during knitting on a circular knitting machine (see Heading D1K). Instead of the flange tabs (24) may be stitched to the garment (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) or may be formed by pulling out reinforced areas (29) of the garment which have fulness compared with the surrounding fabric (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). As a further alternative slits may be provided through which one part of a suspender may be passed, a reinforced area below each slit or extending as a band around the leg portion also being provided. If the garment does not include foot portions at least part of the leg portions are made to grip the leg sufficiently tightly to exert a downward pull on the foundation garment to prevent it from riding up. The stocking part may be detachably connected to the pants part by means of strips of short pile fabric on the parts which may be impaled one on the other.
