GOODMAN ETAL 2,382,477 LADYS PANTY Filed Sept. 3, 1942 I INVENTORS .J'Hurtuz Goodman anogfavid Lance flitorne y Patented Aug. 14, 1945 LADYS PANTIE Martin Goodman, New York, and David Lance, Brooklyn, N. Y., assignors to The Neatform Co. Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application September 3, 1942,.Serial No. 457,114
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a ladys garment and more particularly to a ladys pantie adapted in use for anchoring a foundation garment.
Ladies foundation garments and particularly of the corset belt, corset and girdle varieties, are provided with suspended garters frontally and rearwardly, designed for attachment to the upper rims of the wearers stockings. Such attachment serves to anchor the foundation garment against upward creepage or slippage, in addition to the purpose of supporting the stockings. Panties are commonly used with such garter attached foundation garments, either separately or forming part thereof as in a girdle pantie. When the pantie forms part of the foundation garment, it provides some means, ordinarily, however, quite negligible, for anchoring the foundation garment; but even in such combination garments, it is common to rely upon the suspended garters for properly anchoring the foundation garment.
The prime object of our present invention relates to the provision of a new type of ladys pantie, one which, in addition to serving as a pantie, functions as a means to which the foundation garment suspended garters may be attached for fully anchoring the foundation garment against upward movement on the users body.
A further prime object of our invention centers about the provision of a ladys pantie which may be used in lieu of or in the absence of stockings to serve the dress purpose of an ordinary pantie and the anchoring purpose of an ordinary pair of stockings.
A further prime object of the invention pertains to the production of such a new type of ladys pantie adapted for use with any of a large variety of foundation garments either of a complex or a simple nature, such as corsets, corset belts and girdles, and which may be readily applied or detached from such garments or the body of the user.
An ancillary object of the invention relates to the production of such a pantie which is simple in structure, neat in appearance and comfortable to wear.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as will hereinafter appear, our invention consists in the ladys pantie as hereinafter more particularly described in the specification and sought to be defined in the claims. The specification is accompanying by a drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a view of the pantie showing the manner of its use and showing one modification thereof designed for detachable attachment to a girdle;
Fig. 2 is a perspective fragmentary view of such a girdle particularly showing the parts thereof to which the pantie is attachable;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of the pantie and depicting the shape it assumes in use;
Fig. 4 is an underneath view thereof showing some of the parts opened up for purposes "of better illustrating the construction thereof; I
Fig. 5 is a view of a modified form of pantie showing its applied use and showing its association with a different form of foundation garment, namely, a garment of the corset belt variety; and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view shown on an enlarged scale of the pantie of Fig. 5 and depicting the shape the pantie assumes in use.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing and having reference first to the modification shown in Figs. 1 to 4 thereof, the pantie .comprises in its essential parts two band-shaped leg members L and L, adapted to be put on and encircle the thighs of the users legs, form-fitting the same as is clearly depicted in Fig. 1 of the drawing, and a central crotch piece generally designated as C, joined to said form-fitting leg members L and L, the said leg members being so constructed as depicted in Fig. 1 that the suspended garters ID, ID of the foundation garment II, which is here shown as a girdle, m'ay be attached to the upper rims thereof, the said band-shaped leg members L and L thereby serving as an anchoring means both fronta-lly'and rearwardly for the foundation garment (see' Fig. 1).
This pantie, which may be made into a shape best shown in Figs. 3 and 4, may be made of a fabric of either elastic: or inelastic material and may be fashioned in either one piece or made from a plurality of pieces joined together, the latter being shown in the drawing. The leg members L and L may be separate band-shaped members i2 and I3, relatively narrow so as to encircle and form-fit merely the upper part of the users thighs, the said band l2 being provided with suitably finished upper and lower rim portions l4 and I5 and the said band l3 being similarly provided with the finished upper and lower rim portions l6 and I1. Each band may be made from a piece of sheet fabric the free edges of which are stitched together at I8, l8. The crotch piece C comprises a U-shaped member having the front and rear the leg members L and. L, the joining of these parts being such that the central crotch piece C forms a continuation with the leg members L and L, producing the pantie configuration shown in Fig. 3. The branches I9 and 20 of the crotch piece C are provided (in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4) at their free upper rims with means for attaching the crotch piece in position to the foundation garment -I I, such means being, for example, the snap fastener tapes or bindings 23 and 24, respectively. The crotch .piece C is preferably fashioned from a piece of sheet fabric cut in the shape of an hour glass, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
The pantie of this described construction may be readily put on and interconnected with the girdle foundation garment H. The band-shaped leg members L and L are pulled over the legs until they fit the upper part of the users thighs,
much after the manner of the upper sections of ing fastenerson fastener tapes 25 and 26 at the bottom (frontally and rearwardly, respectively) of the girdlell. The girdle may either be provided with these mating fastener tapes or the fastener tapes may be sewed by the user or purchaser on to any foundation garment which is 'being used. Preferably, the branches l9 and 29 of the U-shaped crotch piece are so constructed that they have free flaps (the rim flaps) for the purpose of securing the best design and for the purpose of permitting readier attachment of the crotch piece to the foundation garment.
' The pantie of this construction as best shown in Fig; l of the drawing may thus be used in lieu of or in the absence of stockings to serve the dress purpose of an ordinary pantie and the anchoring purpose of an ordinary pair of stockings. 'The pantie of this form of the invention may be readily attached toor detached from the foundation garment I l, which latter may be a girdle, a corset, or a corset belt of either simple or complex structure; The pantie itself is quite simple in construction, neat in appearance and very comfortable to wear.
In Figs. and 6 of the drawing, we show a modification of the pantie structure and show its use with a more complex form of foundation garment, namely, a corset belt (of a type having lacing in the back, which however, is not shown). In this form of the invention, the leg members L and L are substantially of the construction previously described, and the crotch piece (3 is tance to provide extended flaps, to the upper rims 21 and 28 of which is attached a belt 29' adapted to encircle and be suspended from the user's waist as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing.
In this modified form of the invention, the garters II), it) of the foundation garment are dress" purpose of an ordinary pantie and the anchoring purpose of an ordinary pair of stockings, and the same may be readily put on and taken off by the user. This form of pantie is also very simple in structure, neat in appearance and comfortable to wear.
The manner of making and using the foundation garment anchoring pantie of our present invention and the several advantages thereof will, in the main, be fully apparent from the above detailed description thereof. It will be further apparent that while we have preferred to show certain. forms the invention may take, modifications may be made in the structure of the parts and their relation one to the other without departing from the spirit of the invention defined in the following claims.
We claim:
l. A foundation garment anchoring pantie comprising two band shaped leg members having a configuration adapted to be put on and encircle the upper part of the thighs of the user's legs form-fitting the same after the manner of the upper sections of a pair of stockings, and a central crotch member connected to the top inside portions of said thigh form-fitting leg members, said crotch member having free upper rims, the said leg members and the crotch member forming a pantie, the said leg members having upper rim portions arranged generally horizontally across the user's legs so that the pendent garters of a foundation garment may be attached thereto, thereby serving as anchoring means for the foundation garment, and the crotch member rims having means for supporting the crotcn member in position on the user both frontally and rearwardly.
2. A foundation garment anchoring, pantie comprising two band shaped leg members having a configuration adapted to be put on and encircle the upper part of thethighs of the users legs form-fitting the same after the manner of the upper sections of a pair of stockings, and a central U-shaped crotch member connected to the top inside portions of said thigh form-fitting leg members, the U-branches of said crotch member having. free upper flaps, the said leg members and the crotch member forming a pantie, the said leg members having upper rim portions arranged generally horizontally across the users legs so that the pendent garters of a foundation garment may be attached thereto, thereby serving as anchoring meansv for the foundation garment, and the crotch member flaps having means for attaching the crotch member in position on the user both frontally and rearwa clly.
