Figure 15 is a vertical sectional view of a further modification of this invention.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 20 designates generally a brassire which is connected to the upper portion of a combined pantie and skirt, generally designated as 2|. The combined pantie and skirt, as shown in Figure 5, comprises a fabric body which is formed from a single piece of fabric including a front body part 22 and a rear body part 23. One side 24 of the pantie or band part 25 is longitudinally split as at 26 and the edges of the split portion 26 are adapted to be secured together by suitable fastening means, which, in the present instance, is in the form of interengageable fastening elements 27. It will be understood that the split portion 26 may be closed by either hooks and eyes, or by buttons and button holes or other suitable fastening means.
The pantie or band part 25 is preferably of double ply, the material being folded upon itself irom the lower edge, as at 28, so as to provide inner and outer plies 29 and 30. The overturned part 28 is stitched together by a lower line of stitching 3|, and the upper ends of the inner and outer plies are reverted, as at 32 and 33, and then stitched together by a double row of stitching 34. The pantie or band part 25 is of substantially frustro-comcal configuration tapering upwardly with the small end thereof uppermost and the material of which this part is made is vertiinherently elastic in at least one direction so that the pantie or band part 25 will readily conform to the outline of the figure. The pantie or band part 25, at the lower end thereof, has detachably secured thereto a crotch piece, generally designated as 35. The crotch piece 35, shown in detail in Figure 6, includes a double ply elongated strip 36 which is stitched together about the longitudinal edges thereof by one or more lines of stitching 31. The opposite longitudinal edges 38 and 38 are inclined inwardly from the outer ends thereof, and the crotch piece 36 is also formed with inclined edges 48 and 4| thereby forming a relatively narrow central portion 42. The opposite ends of the crotch piece 36 are provided with one part of snap fastening elements 43, and the other part 44 of the fastener elements are secured to the lower portion of the pantie or band part 25.
Preferably a reinforcing tape 45 is stitched to the outer side of the pantie or band part 25 at the front and rear thereof and at a point adjacent the lower end. The crotch piece 36, has secured to the opposite longitudinal edges thereof, rufile forming members 46. The rufiie forming members 46 are secured to the longitudinal edges of the crotch piece 36 by stitching 41. The ruflie forming members 46, which are shown in blank form in Figure 9, comprise a fabric member which is cut in crescent form, being provided with a convex outer edge 48 and a concave inner edge 49. The concave inner edge 49 is adapted to be stitched by the stitching 41 to the outer longitudinal edge of the pantie piece 36.
The opposite ends of the rufile forming mem- 'tion as the crotch piece 36 and is provided with a ruflle member 46a similar to the rufile member 46. In this instance the crotch piece 36a has interposed between the upper and lower plies 52 and 53, a reinforcing member or sanitary pad '54. The reinforcing member 54 is secured between the plies 52 and 53 by a transverse double line of stitching 55 and by a V-shaped line of double stitching 56. The stitching 56 is adjacent the rear portion of the crotch piece 36a and in both instances the crotch pieces 36 and 36a areformed with relatively wide rear portions 51 and 51a respectively.
The lower part also includes a skirt 58 which has a reverted upper end portion 59 which is secured by the stitching 68 to the pantie or band part 25 at a point slightly below the hip line of the garment. The skirt 58 has a reverted lower end 6| to which is stitched, bystitching 62, a rufiie 63. The pantie or band part 25 also includes a pair of garter members 84. The garter members 84, shown in more detail in Figures 10 and 11, include an inner flexible strip 65 and an outer flexible strip 88. In the present instance, the two strips 65 and 66 are formed integral with each other, the elongated strip, of which these two strips 65 and 66 are formed, being bent upon itself as at 61, and then stitched by stitching 68 and 69, to the inner part 25, preferably at the inside portions thereof. The twO strap 12.
strips and 66 are of like form, each including an inner ply 18, an outer ply formed integral with the inner ply 18, and an inner reinforcin In the present instance, the two plies l8 and II are formed from a single elongated strip of material which is bent longitudinally upon itself as at 13 and the free longitudinal edges thereof are bent over as at 14 and 15 and then stitched together by stitching 16. The reinforcing strip 12 is also bent over, as at 11, and stitched to the folded portions 14 and 15 by stitching 16. The free ends of the straps 65 and 66 are bent upwardly and inwardly, as shown at 18 and 19, and the reinforcing strip 12 is also bent upwardly and inwardly as at and the upwardly bent or folded portions 18, I8 and 80 are stitched together by stitching 8|. The outer strap 66 is formed with a pair of button holes 82 and 83 and the inner strap 65 is provided with a pair of buttons 84 and 85 for extension through the button holes 82 and 83 respectively.
The buttons 84 and 85 are of like construction, and are preferably formed with a rough outer edge so that when the stocking is inserted between the straps 65 and 66 and one or both of the buttons then extended through the correlated button holes, the roughened edges of the buttons will prevent pulling of the stocking downwardly over the buttons and also prevent tearing of the stocking, so that the stocking will neatly fit the upper part of the leg.
The pantie part 25 has secured to the front and rear portions 22 and 23, on the inner sides thereof, napkin holding straps 86. The straps 86 include a narrow strip or binding 81 which has overlying the inner face thereof, a second strip or tape 88. The two strips 81 and 88 are stitched together and also to the inner ply of the pantie part by stitchings 8|. The outer strip 81 has secured thereto, one part 92 of a snap fastener and the inner strip 88 also has secured thereto a complementary part 83 of a snap fastener. In the present instance there are two complete snap fasteners disposed in spaced apart relation thereby forming a space 84 there-between within which the adjacent end of the napkin may be. extended.
The brassiere 20, at the front thereof, is adapted to be detachably secured to the upper portion of the garment member 25 by means of the strap The strap H1 is formed with a plurality of button holes 8 adjacent the lower portion thereof, and with an upper button hole I |9. The front body part 95 of the brassire has secured to the inner side thereof, a button I20 which is extended through the button hole I I9, and the inner upper side of the front wall 23 of the pantie or garment part; 25 is provided with a button |2| which may be extended through a selected one of the several button holes H8. The strap H1 is adapted to hold the brassier more snugly to the body and also serves as a means for holding the garment 25 against downward movement.
The upper portion of the garment part 25, as shown in Figure 4, at the rear thereof, is provided with a plurality of stitched pleats I28 which provide a conforming means to conform the projecting portion I29 of the garment part 25 to the waist of the user.
In Figure 13 there is disclosed a garment 25a which is similar in every detail to the garment 25, being provided with garter straps 85a and 66a at the opposite sides thereof and with removable crotch piece 36b. In the present instance, the skirt has been omitted.
Referring now to Figure 15 there is disclosed a further modification of this invention wherein the pantie member 250 is constructed in general configuration similar to the garment 25, with the exception that the folded portion 28 of the garment 25 appears at the upper edge of the earment 250, as shown at I30, and a tape or reinforcing strip I3I is stitched as at I32 between the two plies 29a and 38a. In other respects the garment 250 is similar to the pantie 25. The earment 250, in the present instance, has secured at a point intermediate the upper and lower ends thereof, a pantaloon member I 32a. The pantaloon member I32a is folded over, as at I33, at its upper edge, and stitched by stitching I34, to the outer side of the garment 250. The pantaloon member I32a is formed with detachabl leg portions I35 and. I36 which may be secured together by snap fasteners I37. Reinforcing tapes I38 and I39 may be secured to the leg portions I35 and I36 by stitching I40 and MI respectively.
The lower edges of the leg portions I35 and I35 may be provided with rufiies I42 and preferably the loosening of the snap fastener elements I31 will convert the pantaloon member I32 into a conventional under skirt.
I claim:
