Application March'13, 1946, Serial No. 654,012
2 Claims.
This invention relates to combination garments the parts of which have a combined function and, more particularly, to a combined body molding garment such as a girdle or panty girdle combined with a shoulder bracing or supporting part so that the entire upper figure of the wearer is not only moulded but assumes a correct posture.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a combination garment which when worn gives to the wearer a correct posture in addition to serving the well known functions and purposes of corsets, corselets and girdles.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel shoulder brace to be secured to a girdle.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for preventing slippage of a garment of the girdle type.
Other and more specific objects of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art as the following description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention and modifications thereof proceeds with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a view from the front of an embodiment of a garment of the invention in position on a wearer;
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 taken from the rear;
Fig. 3 is a front view of a modification;
Fig. 4 shows a detail of the modification of Fig. 3 from the rear;
Figs. 5 and 6 are views similar to Figs. 1 and 2 of a modification; and
Fig. 7 is a front view of a further modification.
Referring to the drawings and more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 thereof, the combined garment I0 comprises a girdle section l2 and an upper section [4. The girdle section l2 may, if desired, follow the somewhat conventional lines for single garments of this type and may be made of two way stretch elastic. Garters l6 are affixed in any desired manner to the girdle section |2.
The upper section I4 is cut from the material of which it is made so as to fit to the back of the wearer and to keep the shoulders back thereby automatically urging the chest forward. This encourages the wearer to assume a correct posture with comfort. Arm openings I8 are provided by the strap-like loops which lie in front of the shoulders of a wearer. The upper and lower parts l4 and I2 are joined together along a seam 22 by any suitable stitching or other fastening means. It will be noted that the material of the upper part |4 ends just below the armpit but does not continue across the waist as viewed from the front. The cut of the upper part |4 particularly around the arm holes I8 is such that the shoulders are forced back and in cooperation with the parts l4 and I2 assures correct posture of the body.
Fig. 3 of the drawings shows a modified form of a garment Illa which is similar to the garment- ID of Figs. 1 and 2. The girdle portion In is formed like a panty girdle inasmuch as it is provided with a crotch portion 24. Garters 26 may be provided on the portion |2a if desired. The upper portion Ma is or may be similar in all respects to the upper portion |4 previously described. The portions I21: and Ma are joined by a zipper 29. This latter feature is illustrated more in detail by Fig. 4 of the drawing which shows the zipper seam and the operation slide 30. By opening the zipper portion |2a may be lowered from the waistline when necessary. The arm holes |8a and the loops 20a are similar to the arm holes l8 and the loops 20 of Fig. 1.
Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate another embodiment lob of the garment IU of Fig. 1, in which a two part upper section is provided. The lower section or girdle |2b is similar to the section |2 of Figs. 1 and 2. The upper portion comprises two parts 3| and 32. The left hand part 3| has an arm hole |8b anda loop 20b. The upper end of the part 3| is cut in a manner similar to the corresponding half of the section I4 of Fig. 1. The lower end of the part 3| is joined as shown at 35 to the section I2b. The part 32 is similar to the part 3| except that it is cut to form a right hand part and includes an arm hole I81: and a, strap portion 20b. Its lower end is joined at 36 to the section l2b. The parts 3| and 32 are crossed over the back of the wearer as shown when the garment |0b is put on.
Fig. 7 shows a further modification in which the portion |2c is or may be similar to the portion |2 of Figs. 1 and 2. The upper portion of the modified garment Inc of Fig. 7 is of strap construction and may be composed of light weblike straps. Two straps 38 and 39 form the brace part and are crossed at the back as indicated at Al. The straps may be joined to the girdle part by buttons 43 in front and by similar buttons (not shown) at the back. The piece of material 46 joining the straps 38 and 39 above the cross over region 4| will force the shoulders of the wearer back. The cross over of the back parts of the straps provides, in effect, arm openings I80.
It will be understood that the top section composed of the parts 3| and 32 or the top section composed of the parts 38 and 39 may be used with the parity girdle I2a of Fig. 3 if desired. The parts 3| and 32 as used in this connection will preferably be connected by quick detachable means to the panty girdle section.
The invention claimed is:
1. A posture girdle comprising, an expansible girdle designed to embrace the lower part of the,
of the girdle and extending upward over the back 15v 1,231,011
of the wearer, said upper portion being provided with shoulder loops extending forwardly around the shoulders of the wearer to thereby provide a shoulder brace effect.
2. A garment as provided for in claim 1, wherein the upper portion is detachably secured to the girdle at the waistline thereof, and wherein the lower end of the girdle is provided with hosiery 5 supporting elements.
