Description

July 26, 1949. J. B. KENNEDY 2,477,302
SHIRT AND ATTACHMENT THEREFOR Filed Sept. 12, 1947 422 f Aggro/2 F191? Wfiw ATTOR/VEY' 7 Patented July 26, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
My invention relates to garments or wearing apparel, particularly to shirts when worn without an outer garment or coat, which may be used by either men or ladies, who may desire to prevent the lower ends or tails of their shirt from getting out of bounds or out of their trousers or lower outer garment; in other words to use the common expression, to prevent their shirt-tails from being exhibited to the public gaze.
The objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a new article of manufacture;
Second, to provide a shirt with a novel attachment;
Third, to provide a shirt with attaching devices for securing a strap or other means for holding the lower ends of said shirt, both back and front, in such position to hold it normally within the lower garment, whether trousers, slacks, or shorts are worn by the wearer of said shirt;
Fourth, to provide a button near the lower front and rear tails of a shirt for attaching a suitable strap, cord, or tape;
Fifth, to provide a strap with a plurality of button holes for adjusting it under the crotch of the wearer of my shirt.
I attain these objects by the illustrations of the drawing.
Referring to the drawings, similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the three figures, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my shirt with a pleated front with the usual number of buttons and in addition thereto illustrates detachable button 4' in front 8 and detachable button I in back 9 to which is fastened my retaining strap 3 shown in Figure 2. Figure 2 is a slightly perspective view of my strap provided with a buttonhole at each end, and in addition thereto I provide several other buttonholes for adjusting said strap under the crotch of the wearer, to suit the convenience of the wearer, numbers 5- and 6, but do not care to limit myself to the number of adjustments which I may contemplate when said straps are made.
Fig. 3 illustrates a cross section of my shirt at 8 and 9 with its buttonhole inserted with a detachable button 4' and 1.
I do not care to limit myself to any particular design for my shirt, whether dress shirt, work shirt, open front shirt, etc., or ladies blouses, etc. Nor do I care to limit myself to the materials from which my shirts are made.
I do not care to limit myself to the said buttons for securing said strap to the tails, but may use detachable buttons like those used to secure detachable collars to collar-bands of shirts made with separated collars; nor do I care to limit myself to the materials from which either my shirts or my straps are made; nor to the design of my shirts, nor to the shape or design of my straps.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A garment of the class described provided with a front and a back, said front and back extending below the waist of the wearer, with their lower ends in a line generally transverse of the vertical axis of the garment and in addition to the usual number of sewed on buttons and buttonholes in the front of said garment, approximately midway of sides of said garment, a button-hole in said garment suitably spaced intermediate of said waist and of each of said lower ends of said garment, said button-holes each adapted to receive a detachable button therein, whereby a strap can be secured to each of said buttons.
2. A garment of the class described provided with a front and a back, said front and back extending below the waist of the wearer and with each of their lower ends in a line generally transverse of the vertical axis of the garment, and in addition to the usual number of sewed on buttons and button-holes, a button-hole in each of said lower parts and adapted to receive detachable buttons therein, said button-holes suitably spaced between the said waist line and near the ends of the garment and approximately midway of the sides of the garment, and a strap provided with suitably spaced series of button-holes intermediate of the ends of said strap detachably secured to said detachable buttons.
3. A garment provided with means for supporting it by the shoulders of the wearer, suitable arm openings at opposite sides of the garment adjacent to the shoulder supporting means, and opening in front perpendicular to the shoulder supporting means, one side of said perpendicular opening being provided with a series of buttons and the mating side of said perpendicular opening provided with button-holes mating with said buttons providing the closing means for said perpendicular opening, a front and back tail extending beyond the Waist line of said garment, the front tail provided with a button-hole below the series of the said closure means and the back tail likewise provided with a button-hole, detachable double headed buttons inserted in said buttonholes in said tails, and a strap provided with button-holes at opposing lengthwise parts of said strap and adapted to engage said detachable double-headed buttons.
