T all whom it M ay concern Be it known that 1,,NATHAN HATCH, a citizen or the United States, and a resident 0* Albany, county of Albany, and State of w York, lave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Union Suits; and I do declare the following to be it full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference merlrcd'thereon, which form part of this specification.

This invention is u modification of the generic invention described and claimed in my application Serial No. 807,825 filed December 20,

The invention relates to an article of wearing apparel, more particularly to union undergarments for men, women and children.

One of the objects of the invention is to construct a union suit to lit the-body of the wearer perfectly and securely and to make very easy to put on and talce 0d the person of the wearer.

i-rncthcr object is to construct a gurment in which it not necessary to provide the objectionable lines oi buttons and buttonholes or securing means which are usual in mens garments, which extend from the neck thereof to the crotch, thereby preventing the objectionable gaping due to the button structure,

Another object is to pro ide a union suit which is practically integral in the body portionthereof, no fastening such as buttons, buttonholes and the lilre being utilized in the central portion of the front of the garment, or in the vertical line up and down the baeie irnother object is to provide a union undcrgarm'ent in which the fastening means are bfminimum number and arranged at the buck and at the right andleft sides just to the front of hip joints of the wearer of the garment and substantially at the waist line thereof.

The gar is especially useful for persons engaged in athletics, such as horseback riding and the like. The construction is such that the upper portion is practically continuous around the body, similar to ordinary sweaters or athletic undershirts, and the lower or leg portions of the garment are also continuous and are integral With the front part of the shirt portion and amply secured at the rear and side by the use of only a. few, usually three, buttons or fastening means.

The garment is so constructed that in putting it on the body, the legs of the wearer may be inserted into the leg portions in a manner similar to the ordinary way in which trousers are put on, and then the upper portion is placed upon the body of the wearer over the head in a manner similar to the way in which a sweater or athletic shirt. is put on the body of the wearer. The rear portions of the garment are then closed and fastened'by the securing means provided therefor, usually one at the small of the buck, and the others, one at each side substantially at the Waist line and just a little to the front, so-thet they may be conveniently manipulated.

Referring to the drawin forming part of this specification; Figure l is a view of the front of a garment embodying my in vention. Fig. 2 is a View of the rear of a garment embodying my invention provided with one form of back construction. 3 is also a view of the rear of a garment embodying my invention, provided with another form oi": back construction. Fig. 4: illustrates the patterns of inserts for the seat portions.

The garment may be made of either woven or knitted fabric, and except for the features of construction which form my invention, the garment is made in the usual way, nai'nely, the leg; portions may be long or short, the arm'portions long or short, the arm and ends are ribbed usual, the neck being finished in the usual way. The garment is also provided with an open and overleimins fiv construction. and the usual Fig. 1

The body portion of the garment in front and in the rear is made substantially of one continuous piece, the same being secured at in the middle of the back in a line just below the shoulder blades. The edges of the slits are overlapped, so as not to expose the body oi? the wearer, and are finished in the usual Way.

At the rear of the garment at the Waist line thereof, is secured the belt portion D "which may be made oi. the same material as the garment, or of other suitable material. Substantially at the center of the belt are a series of buttonholes f or other fastening means and also on each or the flaps d, d, are also provided a series of buttonholes or other fastening means f, 7'. Buttons or suitable festering means are provided on the garrnent at g. The fastening means indi cated at t e center or small of the back is not al'isolutely necessary. By means of the series of fastens provided in the belt portion or Waist band, the position of the garment may be adjusted to suit the necessities of the wearer.

While I have shown buttons on one portion of the garment and buttonholes on the other, it is evident that the position of the two may be reversed, and that other suitable fastening means may be employed for the buttons and buttonholes.

The inserts m, m, m", and n, n, "/1 shown in Fig. 4.- form a part of the seat structure as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Fastening mes are placed upon the outer edge of one of the inserts, which is arranged to coact with another fastening means upon the hip portion of the garment in a suitable place so that the rear laps of the seat portion formed by these inserts may be held closed "when desired.

As above stated the garment is applied to mirrorinthe person by the wearer stepping through the opening in the back and then lifting the upper or body portion, so that it may be placed over the head. and the arms inserted into the armholes at the sam time. The belt is then secured to the back flap C, or to C, G, b the fastening m ans, and the tabs or flaps d, d, are secured at the sides end front at g, and g, f as shown.

I have illustrated and described the our bodinient of my invention "which i believe to be the one best subserving the object which i have in view, nevertheless the invention is not restricted in. details except as these are definitely expressed in the claims.

Having now described my invention, What .l' claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A union suit, corn rising a bed portion and leg portion, t e structure -aving an opening in the back confined to osition substantially at and above the waistline and below the arms thereof, the base of said opening being substantially at the Waist line extending from just above the position of'the hip joints, through which the body of: the wearer is inserted to place the garment thereupon.

2. A union suit having a front'body portion, leg portions, seat and hip portions, and an upper back portion, all of which portions are substantially integral with. each other, and a flap situated substantially above the waistline forming the central back ortion, the free ends of said flap having 'vert1cal and horizontal dimensions substantially as described. I 3. A union suit comprising a substantially integral front body portion, leg portions, seat and hip portions and upper back portrons, the central back portion having a flap, a belt portion and means for adjustably and detachably securing the free end of the flap to the belt and the belt to the front body portion.

4%. In a union suit having an opening in the back confined to a position substantially at a point above the waistline and below the arms thereof, a fiXe seat portion, a belt portion secured thereto having tabs or flaps at each end, means for adjustably and detachably securing the belt to the front and sides of the garment.
