APPLICATION FILED AUG. 8, 1.5111

HERBERTC. ROUTERY, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
ONE-PIECE GARMENT.
T (17110710122 it may concern:
' Be it knownthat I, HERBERT C. Rot'rnnv,
subject of; Great Britain, having declared iny'intention ofbecoming a. citizen of the. United States; residing at Los i-rngeles, in
the countyof Los Angeles and State of Cali- "'fornia, have'invented a new and useful One-- [Also to provide a! unitary garment giying the appearance of a coat and vest which can be put on and taken off with great case,
which is adjustable to a large variation of size by a minimum amount of adjustment, and which will allow the coat to be freely open in'fro'nt without exposing the person of the wearer.
A special object of the invention is to avoid double thickness of cloth where practical and to allow the body of the wearer maximum freedom of movement.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.
Figure 1 is'a front view of the garment open ready to be donned. Fig. 2 is a view of the same garment as it appears buttoned on'the wearer when the coat is open. Fig. 3 is a view of the same garment completely closed and buttoned on the wearer. Fig. 4 is a section on the medial plane of the garment as shown in Fig. 3, the thickness of the material being exaggerated for clearness of illustration. F ig, 5 is a fragmental detail illustrating an elastic construction.
The garment comprises, coat portion 1 and a trousers portion 2. The coat portion 1 comprises the usual back 3, front laps 4, 5, with arm holes 6 and sleeves 7 said coat being provided below the waist line 8 with the usual tail 9 and preferably being constructed as a Norfolk jacket. Saidcoat portion also preferably has a shawl collar 10 that can be turned up to protect the neck.

off just above the knee and below the tail. Said trousers portion comprises a seat and hip portion 12 at the back of the trousers and reaching to the waist line and joined by any suitable means as by the stitches [3 to the inside of the coat back at the this; line and above the tail portion; thus allowing the tail portion to swing loosely, thereby maintaining the appearance of a twopicce garment. Thefront of the trousers terminates in a bib 1% reaching above the waist-line to the breast line just below the neck and extending from side to side of the garment. The seat and hip portion 12 is separated for a distance down from its top from the bib l l so that above the legs the trousers are formed on each side with an open gap between said portions 12 and 1-4, thus allowing lateral freedom to the body of the wearer.
Tabs 15 are attached to the inside of the front laps of the coat in front of the arm holes, and the bib 14 andthe tabs 15 are provided with fastening means as the buttons 16 and the button holes 17, at the level of the shoulders by which to connect the bib and laps.- The laps are also provided with suitable fastening means as the buttons 18 and button holes 19 by which they are fastened together over the bib after the bib has been fastened to the tabs.
Ornamental trimming straps 20 may be applied at both front and back, the front trimming straps being on the front of the flaps opposite the tabs.
A belt 21 provided with button and button holes22, 23, may be provided as with the usual Norfolk jacket.
For bathing and athletic suits it is deemed preferable to cut the arm holes and fit the sleeves large and loose as with an ordinary shirt; and the sleeves 7 are short so as to give freedom to the arms.
If desired the trousers may be attached to the coat section by an elastic connection as suggested by the elastic straps 25 as shown in Fig. 5, thus making the garment adaptable to a greater range of sizes and also minimizing any tendency on the part of the coat and trousers to rip or tear apart.
In practical use to don the garment it will be opened as shown in Fig. l and will be drawn up over the legs and. then the arms will be put through the sleeves and the bib drawn up into position and buttoned to the tabs. The front laps will then be lappc'l and buttoned and the belt buttoned and the garment is ready for use.
Series of button holes 17 are shown in the tabs through which the buttons 16 may be alternatively buttoned, thus to loosen or tighten the bib to fit the wearer both as to height and width; said button holes being stationed at different distances from arm hole and waist so that the breast or bust measure and length can be changed at will.
- By means of the tabs and the fasteners 16 2. A garment comprising a coat portion having laps at the front, a trousers portion fastened at the back to the coat portion and provided at the front with a bib extending from side to side of the garment, means to fasten the bib to the coat portion at the breast line and means to fasten. the laps over the bib.
3. A, garment comprising a coat portion and a trousers portion fastened together at the back, a bibextending from side to side of the garment at the front of the trousers portion and means to fasten the bib to the coat portion at the breast line, said coat portion being provided with laps to cover the o bib.
