OUTING-GARMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERBERT H. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Outing- Garments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention pertains to improvements in garments for outing purposes, and comprehends a new and novel combination of parts involving pantalets and detachable skirt elements secured thereto, forming a single garment adapted to afford the requisite freedom of movement and convenience to the wearer as a riding garment, and for other athletic uses; the garment being convertible for walking purposes and to overcome the lack of artistic appearance of the pantalets.

The legs of the pantalets are arranged to fit snugly to the wearer at the bottom of the leg parts, also the pantalets fit snugly at the waist-line with fullness of habit therebetween to afford freedom of movement,

while the skirt portion extends downward sufficiently when in use, to conceal the pantalets. The skirt is divided in front and in rear, and each skirt element is provided with fasteners to secure the parts to one.

It will be understood that this invention is susceptible of various modifications in details of construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the scope thereof, and is capable of embodiment in other forms than herein shown and set forth; the invention consisting essentially of pantalets buttoning at the sides and bottom, and a divided skirt secured thereto at the hip-line, the combination thus effected having for its objects the freedom of movement of the wearer, the reduction of weight of the garment, and a neat and artistic appearance of habit.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a garment embodying my invention, showing one of the skirt elements uplifted to exhibit the reinforced crotch and the knee fastenings of the pantalets. Fig. 2 is a side view of the garment, showing the arrangement to open the 'pantalets at the waist-line. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the garment. skirt elements are not detachable. Fig. 5 1s a side perspective of a garment as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a rear view of the modi fied form of garment;parts of the skirt elements being broken away to disclose the construction of the rear portion of the pantalets.

Referring to the drawings, the garment as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, consists in the pantalets 11, arranged to open at the sides from the waist-line 12 to the hip-line 13, to define flaps ll, each having fasteners 15,

so that the flaps may be secured together with a snug fit in conformity with the waist and hips of the wearer. The garment opens at the sides to permit of easy removal and adjustment of the same. The leg parts 16 are divided at the bottom and the flap edges so formed are provided with fasteners 17 to secure the pantalets tightly to the person adjacent to and below the knees of the wearer. This construction provides a snug fit of the pantalets from the waist-line to the hip-line, and at the knee parts, with a fullness therebetween.

The hip-line 13 of the pantalets, is provided with fasteners 18 by which the flaps 19, 20, of a divided skirt, are detachably secured to the pantalets. Skirt flaps 19, 20, are secured together in front by buttons 21, and in the rear by buttons 22, there being a strip of buttons and button-holes, respectively, on contiguous edges of the skirt flaps.

The leg parts of the pantalets 11, and the skirt elements 19, 20, are made of the proper relative lengths so that when on the wearer, the skirt will extend down below the pantalets, and, when the skirt parts are united, will have all the appearance of an ordinary skirt, with the exception that this garment is shorter than an ordinary skirt. The divided skirt assures the wearer of but onethickness ofcloth at the seat por tion, but will allow the wearer to assume any preferred position in riding, while the skirt may be adjusted to drape over the legs of the wearer in any mounted position, allowing the rider to use both stirrups if desirable.

With this arrangement of skirt and pantalets as above described it must be obvious that the same freedom is afforded the leg motions as if wearing trousers only, while the pantalets' are entirely unexposed to view,

It is also apparent that the attachment of the skirt elements at the hipline permits but one thickness of cloth fabric over the Waist and hips of the wearer, and results in a decreased weight of garment.

In theform of garment shown in Figs. l, 5, 6, the skirt elements 23, 24, are affixed to the pantalets 25, at the hipline 26. There is but one thickness of cloth fabric from the waist-line 27 to the hipline 26. The two skirt sections are united by buttons 28, cooperating with buttonholes 29 on contiguous edges thereof, but any preferred form of fasteners may be used for uniting the garment sections together.

The pantalets are provided with a rear opening the edges of which are provided with buttons 80, to which the tongue 31 is secured to cover such opening. When the tongue is buttoned up, the upper edge 32 lies just beneath the hip-line 26, the ame being concealed by the skirt. This arrangement affords a convenience not p0ssessed by other garments of this character.

What is claimed is:

1. In an outing garment, the combination with a pair of pantalets, openable on each side from the waist-line to the hip-line, and fitting snugly and in conformity with the waist and hips of the wearer, and below the knees of the wearer, the said pantalets being full therebetween, of a divided skirt detachably secured to the pantalets at the hipline and extending downward below the a bottom of the pantalets, the said pantalets forming the continuity of the skirt from the hip-line to the waist-line, and said skirt being split at the front and rear to define two flaps, and fasteners to-secure contiguous edges of the skirt flaps for transformation of the garment.

2. An outing garment, comprising pantalets closed in front and rear and opening at the sides from the waistline to the hip-line, of fasteners at the hip-line of the pantalets, skirt elements detachably secured by said fasteners to the pantalets, said skirt elements be ing openable at the front and rear for trans forming the garment, and fasteners on con.- tiguous edges of the skirt elements to unite the skirt elements and conceal. the pantalets.

3. An outing garment, comprising pantalets opening at the sides to remove from the wearer and opening at the rear, a tongue to button over the rear opening, said tongue lying below the hip-line in the buttoned position, a divided skirt aliixed to the pantalets at the hip-line and opening in front and rear to define two flaps, and buttons in cooperation with hutton'holes on contiguous edges of the skirt flaps, whereby said flaps are secured together to conceal said rear opening and tongue.
