Description

K. STAGG.
WAlST.
APPLICATION FILED APR.26, m5.
Patented Nov, 28, 1916.
THE NLnPFIs PETERS co., WASHINGTON, a4 a KATHERINE STAGG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WAIST.
Application filed April 26, 1915.
To all w ham it may concern Be it known that I, KATHERINE S'rAce, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waists, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ladies clothing.
It relates particularly to a new and improved Waist with a double front for the use of women when nursing children.
The object of my invention is to produce a waist which will enable a woman to nurse a child in public without exposing the breast to view.
Another object of the invention is to provide a waist, which while allowing the nursing of the child in public without exposure of the breast, shall be easily made, simple of adjustment, and which when no nursing is going on shall not appear difl erent from any other waist. It can, moreover, be made of any desired material and in accordance with any desired style.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification: Figure 1 is a view showing the waist while the child is being nursed; Fig. 2 is a detail showing how the portion covering the breast may be connected with the remaining part of the waist.
Referring to the drawings: 1 is the body, 9 the blouse portion of the double front fastened to the body of the waist proper; 3 is a sanitary shield, preferably worn in order to prevent soiling of the garments, and 4: shows one manner in which the blouse portion is connected to the waist.
The invention can be carried out in various ways, and the drawings are intended only in the way of example, and as illustrating the principle of the device.
The adjustable blouse portion for covering completely the face of the child while nursing, as seen in Fig. 1, may be attached at the top and sides by buttons, hooks and eyes, or in any other usual way, thereby becoming detachable so as to be worn with any desired waist.
One great feature of the invention is the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1916.
Serial No. 23,799.
waist does not in any case need to be disarranged at the top and this avoids a great deal of the exposure that takes place with the present forms of waist.
The material of which the waist is composed may be heavy, or light, of the cheapest material or of the dearest quality, and may be mad-e to conform to any fashion ruling at the time. It is so simple that skilled labor is not needed, and only the slightest knowledge of dressmaking is required. The blouse portion may be constructed as a separate article, and detachably connected to any desired Waist. If a corset cover is worn, it and the Waist proper should be provided with a slit, and in order to avoid soiling the garments, a shield is provided under the breast opening. In order that it may be applied to any waist, all that is necessary is to have the waist in question provided with a slit over the breast, and this slit could be covered with a plait or fold, or in any desired manner, so that it would not appear to difier from any other waist. Then simply apply the blouse portion.
My invention has nothing in common with various attempts that have been made to ace complish the same object, such as flaps, openings at the side, and so forth, but my invention aims at providing a garment which shall entirely conceal the breast and face of the child, when the nursing is going on, at the same time allowing of its being made in ornamental, fashionable style.
Having thus fully described and illustrated my invention, What I claim is A double front nursing waist comprising a body portion and a blouse portion completely detached therefrom, said blouse portion being so constructed and arranged as to conceal both the breast of the nurse and the face of the nursing child.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 22d day of April, A. D. 1915.
KATHERINE STAGG.
