Description

L. ARONS.
GARMENT SUPPORTER- APPLICATION FILED JUNE H. 19H.
1,294,874. Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
WITNESSES:
LOUIS ARONS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GARIVIENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
Application filed June 11, 1917. Serial No. 173,924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS AnoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Supporters, of which the following, taken in connection with the drawings, is a descriptlon.
My invention has for its object the production of a garment supporter designed to be worn inside of the waist band of the garment to prevent the same from sagging or wrinkling at the waist line and to hold the upper portion of the garment closely to the body of the wearer to present a neat appear ance at the waist line, and to give a much better shape in outward appearance to the garment itself.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which is adapted more particularly to be used in connection with mens trousers and is so constructed that it may be stitched or otherwise permanently attached to the garment when being made, or it may be provided with a re movable attaching device so that the sup porter may be used with the garment when desired and easily removed therefrom.
A further object of the device is to provide a supporter or belt of this kind, extending around the body of the wearer and being adjusted snugly thereto outside of the waist, shirt, or other garment, thereby holding the same in proper position at the waist line and preventing it from working loose or out of place, and allowing the lower garment to which the belt is attached to have the outward appearance of being either loosely or closely fitted to the person of the wearer.
I have illustrated in the accompanying drawings what I now consider the preferred form of my device, although it is obvious that the details thereof may be varied in different ways without departing from the spirit of my invention, and in these drawings,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device detached from the garment;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same adjusted in position at the waist line of a pair of trousers;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail illustratmg the device as attached to the garment with a removable attaching device;
Fig. 4 is a modified form of construction illustrating the device permanently secured to the garment;
Fig. 5 illustrates a fragmentary section of the garment with my supporter attached thereto, the supporter being shown in cross section;
Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail of the detachable fastening device; and
Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail of one of the stay members.
In carrying out the invention, A represents a belt, which may be of any suitable material, preferably non-elastic, having a buckle or other securing means, a, attached at each end thereof, by means of which the supporter is held in place around the body of the wearer. Arranged at intervals along this belt are a plurality of upwardly extending stays, B, which are formed of an inner metal portion, 7), which is provided with a casing or cover ing of fabric or other suitable material 7), which latter material extends beyond the top of each of said stay members and forms a tab or tongue, 0, by means of which the device is attached to the garment.
The upper end of the fabric of the stay member which extends beyond the metal stay, 6, is provided with an eyelet opening therethrough, c, by means of which the device is attached in place to the waist band of the garment with which it is worn.
As shown in Fig. 4, I contemplate securing this belt permanently in the waist portion of the garment, if desired, in which case the fabric portion of the stay, 0, which eX tends above the metal 7;, is stitched b or otherwise secured permanentlyto the waist band of the garment.
To removably attach the belt or supporter to the garment, I provide one or more eyelets, c, which is adapted to receive the shank, c of a form of button which is known on the market as a bachelor button, the head 0 of which may be detached from the shank by pressing the spring in the body of the button, which forms no part of my invention.
When attaching this form of construction to the garment the shank end, 0 is inserted through the waist band, C, of the garment,
G, and extending said shank 0 also through the eyelet c in the upper portion, 0, of each stay member- When each of the stay memhere 1 have been thus secured, the bolt is turned downwardly inside of the garment and is ready for use. p 7 When the supporter is secured to the garment, care is taken in adjusting so that after the belt is turned downwardly inside the garment, the upper ends of the stay members will reach just below the upper edge of the garment and be entirely unexposed from the outside of the garment.
In securing the belt or supporter permanently to the garment, the eyelet a, may be utilized in stitching through the waist band ofjthe garment, or if desired, a plurality of such eyelets may be arranged in each tongue of the stay members for the purpose of securing it to the garment without the possibility of easily tearing out.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for 1 claim: V
1. A garment supporter comprising a belt, a plurality ofupwardly extending stay members secured to said belt, said stay members being inclosed in a fabric casing extending beyond the upper end of the same and forming a flexible tongue member adapted to be directly attached to the garment.
2. A garment supporter comprising a belt, aplurality of upwardly extending stay members secured to said belt, said stay members having a fabric covering which eXtends'beyond the upper end of thesame and forms an attaching member, said attaching members being provided with eyelets. therethrough, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification.
