IDA F. CURRY, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
GARMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IDA F. CURRY, a cit-1- zen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Wash ington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in childrens blouses, or those garments whose lower part forms a blouse over the upper part of the trousers or skirt, as the case may be.
I have illustrated a blouse for boys and trousers, and will confine the detail description of my invention to this garment, although it will be understood that the blouses may be employed in connection with a childs skirt in which case the manner of attaching the blouse to the skirt band will be the same as that of attaching it to the trouser band, in cases where an underbody is employed.
Boys trousers are invariably provided with an inner waist band provided at intervals with button-holes, there being a buttonhole in the center of the back and one in the center of the front, with intervening buttonholes, all for attachment to buttons usually placed upon a suitable band of an underbody or waist, which garment serves to support the trousers. In some instances, with larger boys, the pants are supported by the usual suspenders, in which case the suspenders attach to buttons upon the outside of the trousers band the blouse or outer upper garment in no case supporting the trousers. The usual blouse is provided with a drawing string or other means for adjusting the lower part of the blouse and depend for their fit upon tightening or loosening the cord around the waist to suit the wearer, it being usually quite tight, and uncomfort' able and permits the blouse to ride above the trousers, causing annoyance to the child, and an exceedingly untidy appearance.
The object of this invention is to provide a blouse that can be quickly secured either to the waist band of the trousers where suspenders are worn, or to the attaching devices upon the underbody or waist where such garment is employed to support the trousers or other lower garment, and one in which there is no necessity for contracting the lower part of the blouse uncomfortably Specification of Letters Patent.

close to the body of the wearer, the blouse effect depending in no way upon a tight tit.
In the draw1ngsFigure 1 is a perspective view of a blouse constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the blouse, used in connection with an under-body showing the trousers attached. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of fragments of the front or back of the blouse, trousers and underwaist. Fig. 4 is a perspective View showing the trousers commonly worn by small boys and showing the inner band provided with button-holes and also with the usual buttons for attachment to suspenders. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the blouse band, and Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view of the lower portion of a blouse and band, taken just in advance of the tab.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the blouse body, and 2 a band which I preferably employ and stitch to the lower part of the blouse. This band is formed with an end tab 3 and a center tab 4-, the front tab 3 being provided with a button-hole 5, and a button 6, while the tab 4 is provided with a button-hole 7 and a button 8. I prefer to use the band stitched to the lower part of the blouse, as just stated, since it'reinforces the lower part of the garment, but it will be understood that the blouse may be hemmed at the bottom and the device attached in the front and back directly to the hem.
The numeral 9 designates the ordinary underbody worn by small children which is provided with the usual buttons 10 at front and back. The numeral 11 designates the usual trousers worn by small boys. These are provided with an inner waist band 12 stitched to the trousers at intervals as indicated at 13, and provided with button-holes 14: among which are front and back buttonholes 15 and 16. These trousers are also provided with the usual suspender buttons 17 which Suspender-buttons 17 and holes 15 and 16 adapt the trousers to be supported by either an underbody, as shown in Fig. 1, or by suspenders as indicated in dotted lines Fig. 4E.
In the event of the use of the underbody such as 9, for the support of the trousers, the tab 3 is buttoned over the button 10, at the front, the button on the underbody passing through the button-hole 5 in the tab 3, and through the front button-hole 15 of the trousers, thus firmly securing the front of the blouse to the front of the trousers and to the underbody. The rear fastening is the same as the front, the button on the underbody passing through the button-hole 7 on the rear tab 4: and through the button-hole 16 of the trousers, thus at front and back, firmly securing the blouse, allowing for the attractive blouse effect which is desired and at the same time preventing a separation from either the underbody or trousers, the blouse being loose at the sides, the arrangement adding greatly to the comfort of the wearer. The contour of the body and the necessary stretch of the blouse between the securing points at the front and back of the body, will full the sides of the garment, with the desired sightly effect and preventit from riding up or separating from the trousers. 7
Now where suspenders are used, the underbody of course is dispensed with and the trousers supported by the suspenders. In this case, the'button-hole 15 is buttoned over the button 6 on the front tab 3, while the button-hole 16 is buttoned over the button 8 on the rear tab 4.
I have found in practice, that a blouse so constructed, aside from its adaptability for use with the two supporting means commonly used to support the trousers, that is to say, the underbody and the suspenders, obviates the necessity for the use of drawing strings or other devices for adjustingthe lower part of the blouse and produces and maintains the desired blouse effect without discomfort to the wearer or the likelihood of the blouse slipping up to cause the unsightly appearance sought to be avoided.
Where the band 2 is dispensed with the tab 3 is preferably attached to the button hole band of the front of the blouse, as this, in the usual garment is more thoroughly reinforced than the button side of the opening.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is a 1. A blouse having a button and a buttonhole in the back and a button and buttonhole in the front said buttons and button-holes located vertically one above the other, whereby the garment is adapted for attachment to an under independent detachable supporting means or for attachment to the band of trousers or other lower garment, whereby the blouse effect is maintained, and to prevent separation of the blouse and lower garment while upon the wearer.
2. A blouse having tabs located, respectively at the rear and front thereof, each provided with a button and a buttonhole, whereby the blouse is adapted for attachment to a button on an under supporting means, or
for attachment to the band of trousers or.
other lower garment, whereby the blouse tion of the blouse and lower garment while upon the wearer.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. V
