Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 6, i916.
Application filed November 12, 1914. Serial No. 871,674.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that l, HARRY L. KAHN, a citizen of the United` States, residing at 4710 Grand Boulevard, inChicago, county of Cook, and State of illinois, have invented new and useful improvements in'Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
rhis invention relates to improvements in trousers, and more especially to an improved form of belt loop which is used on the waist band of such garments. Heretofore it has been customary to malre the under-garment with a strap or loop attached to the waist band and when Suspenders are worn the supporting ends of thesev are inserted through thel straps or loops on the undergarrnentand then buttoned onto the suspender buttons on the trousers; and when the trousers are supported by a belt instead of Suspenders, it is desirable to supply means for supporting the under-garment likewise.
Accordingly the present invention consists in making two or more of the belt loops in such form that a free end is provided on each which extends over the top edge of the waist band of the trousers and down inside, where it may be inserted through a loop on the under-garment and fastened to the inside of the waist band of the trousers with a snap button. p
Such invention is illustrated inthe accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing a pair of trousers with my improved belt loop used thereon. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in perspective showing a portion of the inside of the waist band of the trousers. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the outside of the waist band. Fig. i is a vertical section on the line 4.-4 of Fig. 3.
As shown in said drawings, 10 indicates a pair of trousers constructed in the same manner as such garments have heretofore been constructed, with a waist band 11 and several belt loops 12, 12, upon such waist band, through whichA is inserted a belt 13. 1n addition to the belt loops 12 which are of ordinary form, there is provided on each side of the garment a belt loop 15 which is made considerably longer than the loops 12; being secured to the waist band of the p Copies of this patent may be obtained for trousers at itsv iower end and also at a point some distance from its opposite end, leaving part 16 in the forni of a tab or flap to be securedA to the inside of the waist band. rfhe construction of these parts is shown in Fig. 1 wherein itis seen that the lower end of the loop 15 is secured between the edges of the pieces of cloth forming the legs and the waist band of the trousers, while it is secured at another point 2O to the top of the waistband; 21 indicatingthe liningof the trousers with an eXtra piece of cloth 22 to finish the waist band, and 23 indicating the outer edge ofv a watch pocket which is provided in the trousers immediately below the waist band. Gn the free end vof the tab 16, and in a corresponding position upon the inside of the waist band, are secured the two parts of a snap button or fastener 25, and in the use of the device the tab 16 may be inserted through the loop 30 on the waist band of the under-garment 31 and then secured by the snap fastener 25. 1n addition to this use of the device a watch chain or key chain withl a ring on the end may be secured in like manner by inserting the tab 16 through the ring and then snapping it in place.
claim as my invention:
1. rlhe combination with a pair of trousers having a waist band, of a belt loop secured at two points to such waist band and having ajfree end adapted to be folded inward over the upper edge of such waist band and secured to the insidel thereof.
2. yfhe combination with a pair of trousers comprising a body portion and a waist band secured thereto, of a belt loop having its lower end secured between such body portion and such waist band, such belt loop being secured between its ends to the upper part of the waist band, and having its free end adapted to be folded over the top of the waist band and to be detachably secured to the inside thereof.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presenceof two witnesses this 36th day of 0ctober, 1914.
y HARRY L. KAHN.
