LOUIS DAUM, OF LOSCHWITZ, GERMANY.
TROUSERS-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,001, dated )ctober 19, 1897.
Application filed May 22, 1894. Serial No. 512,092. (No model.) Patented in Belgium June 2, 1894, No. 110,269; in England June 13,1894, No.11,466; in France June 18, 1894, No. 239,222; in Italy June 30, 1894, XXVIII, 36,310, and
in Austria July 3,1894,N0.44/2,914.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, LOUIS DAUM, major, residing at Dresden-Loschwitz, Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Back-Straps for Supporting Trousers, (for which I have obtained a patent in Belgium, No. 110,269, bearing date June 2, 1894; in Great Britain, No. 11,466, bearing date June 13, 1894; in France, No. 239,222, bearing date June 18, 1894; in Italy, XXVIII, 36,310, bearing date June 30, 1894, and in Austria, No. 44/2,914, bearing date July 3, 1894,) of which the following-is a specication.
My invention relates to improvements in trousers-straps; and the object of my improvements is to provide a trousers-strap replacing the ordinary Suspenders,L which greatly-hinder the free movement of the wearer, and being adapted to be used as bandage or sling.
On the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 Vshows the trousers-strap in connection with the trousers and theY means for connecting a waistcoat with the trousers. Fig. 2 shows the trousersstrap in connection with the trousers and the waistcoat, and Fig. 3 shows the trousers strap in connection with the trousers. Fig. 4 is a plan view, Fig. 5 an edge view, and Fig. 6 a sectional edge view, of the trousers-strap. Figs. 7 and 8 show the application ofthe trousers-strap'as sling and bandage. Y
The trousers-strap consists of a fabric strip a, doubled upon Vitself at one end and permanently secured at the said end to a buckle b, while theother end of the strip a, is passed freely through the buckle. In order to hold the strip in any position after it has been drawn through the buckle, the latter has a clasp d, adapted to be turned to the right and left and provided with a ldap-piece c. To the loop formed by the double strip an angular bent hoop c2 is secured, vto which a tab e is attached. On the. other hand a tabe is'iiXed to the free end of the strip a. The tabs, pref-I erablykmade of leather, are provided with a buttonhole in order to be fastened to two buttons f, attached to the trousers near the hips, Figs. 2 and 3, so that the strap surrounds the waistcoat.
back part of the body of the wearer from hip to hip. By adjusting the strap the trousers are held fast. In order to remove the strap, it is simply unbuttoned.
It is advisable to apply a keeper g at the back of the trousers, through which keeper the strap is put.
, The strap can be, if necessary, used as bandage or sling. For this purpose the angular bent hoop c2 of the double strip is provided with a hook e3, which can be turned in such a way as to rest in a slit of the buttonholetab e', secured to the hoop e2. Owing to this arrangement the hook cs does not hinder the appliance of the strap. The strap has further .the eyelets g', arranged one behind the other. With help of the buckle b the strap can be prolonged and is then wound several times aroundthe place to be dressed, Fig. 7, and the hook 'e3 is hooked in one of the eyelets g.
Y For using the strap as a sling the buttonhole of the tabs or one of the eyelets g is buttoned to a coat-button, or the hook e3 of the tab e is hooked in a buttonhole of the coat, while the arm of the person is put through the loop formed by the double strip, Fig. 8.
l After the strap has been taken off the trousers may be suspended by the waistcoat by means of buttonholes e' at the sides of the waistcoat, which buttonholes correspond with the buttons h, fixed to the' trousers, Fig. 1.
`The buttons intended for the strap may also be used for connecting the trousers with the Having `now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A trousers strap comprising a fabric strip doubled upon itself at one end and permanentlysecured at the said end to a buckle, the other end of said strip passing freely through the buckle whereby it is adjustable thereon, and a buttonhole-tab secured to each end of the strip, and a hook arranged in the loop formed by the double strip, substantially as and for the purpose described.V
2. A trousers strap comprising a fabric strip provided with eyelets and doubled upon itself at one end and permanently secured at the said end to :t buckle, the other end of said strip passing freely through the buckle Whereby it is adjustable thereon, and a buttonhole-tab Secured to each end of the strip, and
5 a hook arranged in the loop formed by the double strip, substantially as and for the purposo set forth.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
LOUIS DAUM.
