SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 672,760, dated April 23, 1901.
Application filed December 14, 1900. Serial No. 39,877. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIGMOND GARDNER, of Savannah, in the county of Ghatham and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hosiery-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hosiery-supporters; and it has for its object the production of a simple, eflicient, and inexpensive supporter of this character which may be readily and quickly adjusted to position and when so adjusted will remain securely fastened until it is desired to remove the same.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View of my improved hosiery-supporter,
showing the same unclasped. Fig. 2 is a similar-.view illustrating the same when clasped. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view. Fig. is a sectional view on line 4 4, Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, represents the body portion of my improved hosiery-supporter, the same being formed of elastic webbingand provided with the usual adjustingbuckle l1. Said webbing at the point 12 is provided with a right-angle fold 13, forming a vertical pendant 14, by which the hook or other garment engaging device 15 is supported. The adjacent portions of the webbing at the right-angle fold 13 are stitched together in any suitable manner, as indicated at 16, to form a reinforced portion, to which a spring-stud 17 is secured, said stud having flanges supporting the webbing on both sides of said fold. The webbing 10, adjacent to the buckle 11, is looped through a metallic slide 18, carried by a tab 19 of leather or other suitable material. The socket 20 for the stud 17 is secured to said tab in any preferred manner.
In practice the body of the supporter is passed around the limb of the wearer and the socket 20 and stud 17 caused to engage each other, whereby the supporter is securely held in position. The pendant 14 is thus hung in an exactly perpendicular position directly over the hose of the wearer, whereby the strain is distributed equally throughout the Whole device and the hook 15 placed in the most advantageous and effective position. It will be particularly noted that by forming the right-angle fold in the manner described the use of metallic buckles is avoided for that purpose, whereby the cost is greatly reduced and wear resulting from rust and the chafing of the metal is reduced to a minimum, an exactly vertical pendant for the supportinghook is obtained, and finally the webbing is reinforced to receive the stud 17. It will also be observed that While I have illustrated a form of hosiery-supporter which is more particularly applicable for the use of men, yet the same, with but slight modification, is also applicable for use by ladies and children or as a sleeve-holder for men.
From what has been said it will be observed that I have produced a hosierysupporter which comprises many advantages in point of simplicity, durability, and inexpensiveness.
I claim as my invention- 1. A hosiery-supporter comprising a body portion formed of a single piece of webbing provided with a right-angle fold, whereby a double thickness of fabric and a vertical depending end are obtained, stitches arranged to unite the adjacent folded portions of the fabric at said right-angle fold, a spring-stud secured to the folded portion of said Webbing, a socket carried by the free end of said body portion, and a garment-engaging device carried by said depending end, substantially as set forth.
2. A hosiery-supporter comprising a body portion formed of a single piece of webbing provided with a right-angle fold whereby a double thickness of fabric and a vertical depending end are obtained, the free end of said body portion being provided with a loop, a tab provided with a slide through which said loop is passed, stitches arranged to unite the adjacent folded portions of the fabric at said right-angle fold, a spring-stud. secured to said folded portion of the webbing, a socket carried by said tab, and a garment-engaging device carried by said depending end, substantially as set forth.
