Description

(No Model.)
- G. B. ADAMS. TROUSERS STRAP.
" Patented July 17, 1-894."
other arrangements and combinations of parts UNITED STATES I GEORGE E. ADAMS, OF IRVINGTON, NEW JERSEY.
TROUSERS-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 523,063, dated July 17, 1894- Application fi fl September 9, 1893.
Serial No. 485,189. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Irvin gton, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Straps or Belts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The general class of inventions to which the devices herein-described relate is trousers straps or supporters, which can be readily attached to the trousers with the least difficulty, serving as a belt, which is far superior to the ordinary style of belts or trousers supporters.
The improvements herein described are designed to provide a device which will effectually perform all the functions of a belt or trousers supporter, with nothing to mar the outward appearance thereof.
The invention therefore consists essentially of a band, such as webbing, which is preferably elastic, the ends of which are fastened to suitable holding or fastening devices provided with a pin or pin-pointed hooks and means for securing the ends of said band to said fastening devices.
The invention further consists in certain such as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying sheet of. drawings, in which similar letters of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views thereof.
Figures 1 and 2 are a front and side view respectively of a trousers strap embodying the principles of my present invention. Fig. 3 is a back View of the trousers strap in which the ends of the band or strap are secured by means of a pin or pin pointed hooks, arranged in a shell or casing, directly beneath the marginal rim of said shell or casing; and Fig. 4 is a similar view, one of said fastening devices being provided with a suitable grasp= ing pull or loop.
In said drawings, 1) is a suitable strap or band, preferably of elastic material, having its ends connected with holding devices A, which may be of any suitable shape or ornamentation and of any preferred design. Said holding devices A may be button-shaped and consist essentially of a shell or casing a provided with an inwardly projecting marginal bead or rim a.
As will be seen from Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, instead of forming the back-plate of a solid blank of metal, as I have done in my previous patent, No. 489,702, issued J anuary 10, 1893, said back-plate is made of a con tinuous piece of wire 0 provided with a bent portion 0 and the curved end portions 0, all of which are sprung under the marginal rim or bead aof the shell or casing a, thecurved end-portions 0 being provided with pin-points e and a, formed integral with said wire. The ends of the band or strap 6 are securely held between said portions 0 and the rim 0. of the shell or casing a, as will be clearly understood from said Figs. 3 and 4.
The application of my trousers strap is very simple. By means of said hook-shaped pin or pins connected with the casing or shell of said holding or fastening devices A, one of said devices is hooked into the material of the trousers, and by pulling on the other holding device, the strap or band I) can be instantly adjusted, when this second device or button is pressed down against the material and its holding teeth embed themselves in the ma terial.
It will thusbe seen, that the strap answers the purpose of a belt, when worn in the back of the trousers, near the waist line, conforming itself to any position of the body, and still allowing great freedom of ease and motion.
Connected with one of said holding devices A maybe a pull-loop 17', being the one end of the strap 19, which is doubled, and said doubled end extending from the opposite side of the shell or casing 0., thereby forming the pullloop 5 for adjusting the strap to the trousers, or for detaching the same, as may be desired. In the construction illustrated in Fig. 4, said pull-piece or loop may be made of cord or other like material, which is secured to the curved portions as clearly shown.
I am aware that other arrangements and constructions of the several forms of holding devices A may be made, without departing from the scope of my invention, and I therefore do not limit my invention to the exact arrangement and construction of the parts herein shown.
marginal rim or bead a, and means for securing the end of a band to said clasp, consisting of a continuous piece of wire 0 having holding portions 0 and curved end-portions 0 sprung under said bead a and held 7 thereby, and pin-points formed integralwith said curved portions 0 substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The combination, in a trousers strap, of a band I), and fastening devices at the ends of the band, consisting essentially of a shell or casing having an inwardly projecting marginal rim or bead a, and means for securing the ends of said band to said fastening devices, consisting essentially of a wire having holding portions sprung beneath said head a and held thereby and having pin-points, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of August, 1893.
GEORGE B. ADAMS.
