BELT-SUPPORT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 413,401, dated October 22, 1889.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LoUIs SANDERS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Belt-Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improved beltsupport, and has for its object to provide a simple, quickly-applied, and economical device adapted especially for use in connection with belts worn with tennis, yachting, and other outing shirts, whereby the belt will be eifectually prevented from riding up over the waistband of the trousers; and a further object of the invention is to provide a device which may be expeditiously attached to or detached from the trousers without injury to or marring the same in the least.

The invention consists in the novel construction andcombination of the several. parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference 1 indicate corresponding parts in all theviews.

Figure 1. is a front perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front perspective View illustrating the attachment of the loop to the device, and Fig. 4 is a representation of a figure illustrating the application of the device.

The invention consists, practically, of two parallel tongues 10 and 11 and a stop plate or arm 12, secured to one of the said tongues, preferably the out-er one. In constructing the device the two tongues 10 and 11 may be made of one piece of spring metal and the stop plate or arm be attached thereto or the said arm may form an integral portion of the rear or inner tongue 10, in which event the outer tongue 11 is secured to the upper portion of the arm. The inner tongue is usually made of greater length than the outer tongue 11, and both tongues, especially the inner one, are ordinarily curved atthe extremities in the direction of the back. The inner tongue 10 is provided with a series of teeth 13, which project upward at an inclination fromthe outer face of the said tongue.

The stop plate or arm contacts with the outer tongue 11 at the upper end, and the .said stop plate or arm and the outer tongue may be united in any suitable or approved manner. The stop plate or arm projects downward a slight distance from the upper bow section of the united tongues, and is then carried outward at an angle to the tongue 11,

'hen the belt is applied to the trousers, the rear face of the belt contacts with the outer face of the outer tongue 11, and the upper edge of the belt is bound between the head 15 of the stop plate or arm and the opposed surface of theouter tongue, as is illustrated in Fig. 4:.

This device is capable of being made in a very ornamental manner, and when applied presents a very dressy appearance. The device ma be made so small as not to be at all conspicuous.

If it is desired in practice to use a loop in connection with the device to pass over the belt, the same may be effected by the con: struction shown in Fi 3, in which it will be observed that the upper end of a strap 16, of metal, leather, or other suitable material, is

secured to the head 15 of the stop plate or arm 12, the lower end of which strap has attached thereto or formed integral therewith a hook 17, adapted to be inserted in the trousers below the under edge of the belt.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent 1.
