III B lHHHHIIH.
RUSSELL PARKER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
TROUSERS.
l Application filed August 30, 1917.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RUSSELL PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in trousers and more specifically to belt retaining means, whereby the waistband of the trousers may be held in proper relation to the belt and is prevented from creeping below the edge of the belt in the front of the trousers.
I am aware that many devices of this kind have been used, but in all previous constructions for this purpose metal rings or cloth straps have been used. Not only do these devices cause an unsightly appearance when a belt is not being worn with the trousers, but being sewed on they worked loose or tore oi. In carrying out my invention I do away with all such attachments and provide an eyelet passing through the cloth near the overlapping edge of one of the meeting ends of the waistband of the trousers. The eyelet is only large enough to receive the tongue of the buckle of the belt which it is adapted to support, and is disposed near the top of the waist portion of the trousers in proper alinement with the belt.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
Figure l represents the front of a pair of trousers with the belt tongue projecting through the eyelet and the belt partly buckled.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the belt fully buckled, showing how the belt retaining means is invisible 1n use.
In the drawings l represents the front waist portion of the trousers provided with the usual belt-supporting loops 2, and 3 represents a waist belt passing through the loops and provided at one end with a buckle 4 of any preferred kind having a tongue 5 adapted to interchangeably engage holes 6 on the opposite end of said belt to permit of its being properly adjusted about the waist of the wearer.
My improved belt retaining means is provided near the edge of the front fly 7 not Specification of Letters Patent.

far from the top, and comprises an eyelet 8 passing through the cloth of the outer liap 9 of the fly at a point where it will normally be in line with the tongue 5 of the buckle. By this construction and arrangement the tongue inay be inserted first through the eyelet 8 and then through any one of the de sired holes G in the belt, as shown in Figs. l and 2. The projecting end of the belt is then inserted through the loop l0 ordinarily provided on waist belts, and my device is made entirely invisible as indicated in Fig. 3. `Where the outer flap of the fly is formed of two plies the eyelet may be passed through one or both plies with equal success. It is preferable, however, where the cloth is heavy to pass the eyelet through only the outer ply, as the tongue 5 of the buckle may be more easily passed through it. This arrangement, however, is arbitrary and may be made as practice proves most fit.
It is apparent that with my invention all unsightly appendages are dispensed with and the trousers present a neat appearance whether worn with or without a belt, while a strong and durable construction is provided for maintaining the belt and trousers in proper relation.
I claim as my invention:
1. A trousers having its waist portion formed with a iiy comprising overlapping flaps, and provided on the outer of said flaps with an eyelet passing therethrough adapted to be engaged by the tongue of a belt buckle.
2. A pair of trousers having a waist portion provided with a fly comprising overlapping flaps, a waistband, a belt provided with a tongued buckle for encircling said waistband, and an eyelet in alinement with said buckle tongue in the outer flap of said fly near the edge thereof through which said buckle tongue is adapted to pass.
3. A trousers having a waist band and a supporting means provided with a buckle, said waist band being provided with an eyelet therethrough adapted to be engaged by the tongue of the buckle.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
RUSSELL PARKER.
