WILLIAM M. MORRIS AND BENJAMIN MORRIS, OF MILFORD, CONNECTICUT.
GARMENT-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1917.
Application filed January 2, 1915. Serial No. 259.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WVILLIAM M. MORRIS and BENJAMIN Morals, citizens of the United States, residing at Milford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to metallic belts for garment fasteners, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a resilient or flexible belt made of thin sheet material and extending around inside the waist band of a pair of trousers to serve both for connecting the trousers in front at the top and also serving to support the suspenders on the inner side.
Another object of the invention is to provide a metal waist band belt having a hook and a Series of slots at the front end in order to render the belt adjustable around the waist. and said belt being formed of metal and h aving inwardly and downwardly extending tongues on the inner side to be used for connecting the suspender ends thereto. the object being to reduce the cost of applying buttons to the waist band of trousers and also to eliminate the necessity of having a hook and eye secured to the front edges of the fly.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of a metal belt made in accordance with this invention and shown connected to a fragmentary portion of the fly of a pair of trousers.
Referring to the drawing. the numeral. 1 designates abelt made of sheet metal and adapted to be inserted between the outer and the inner layers at the waist band of a pair of trousers. The metal belt 1 may be provided with a hinge 2 at the back, thus providing means whereby the belt when detached from the front may be readily re- Inoved. At the back of the belt are two downwardly extending hooks 3, said hooks preferably being cut from the body of the belt and extending downwardly for connection of the rear suspender ends. In front are similar hooks i for the front ends of the Suspender ends. At the front the belt is provided with a series of slots 5 at one end and the opposite end is provided with a horizontal hook 6 out from the body of the belt and bent up to engage any one of the slots 5.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a belt of this character inserted at the waist line of a pair of trousers will obviate the necessity of sewing on the buttons for the suspenders, and at the same time will eliminate the necessity of having a hook and eye separately sewed on the two front portions of the fly of the trousers.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is A garment fastener comprising a pair of body sections. means for hinging the rear ends of the sections together. a downwardly depending hook struck up from each section and disposed upon each side of the hinging means and upon the inner faces thereof for engaging the rear tabs of a pair of suspenders; downwardly dependinghooks struck up from the sections adjacent their free ends and disposed upon the inner faces thereof for engaging the front tabs of the suspenders, one of said sections having a plurality of elongated slots arranged in spaced relation and adjacent the free end thereof, and a hook struck up from the other section and disposed upon the outer face thereof to engage any one of the slots.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
