Description

(No Model.) A. BERNSTEIN.
CLASP FOR SUSPENDERS.
No. 438,051. Patented Oct. '7, 1890..
WITNESSES INVENTOR fldaipvkfiernszez'm. if? m 9 ATTOHNE YS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH BERNSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLASP FOR SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,051, dated October 7, 1890.
Application filed July 31,1890- Serial No. 360,495. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH BERNSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in clasps for suspenders, braces, and the like; and the invention consists in the details of construction set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face View of the clasp applied to use. Fig. 2 is a rear view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view of the clasp opened. Fig. 4 is a section along a: :0, Fig. 1.
The clasp consists of a body A, having side pieces 13 and a tail-piece O. The body has top teeth D and inner teeth E. The inner part of the body is shown as being cut out, and the teeth E are formed along the periphery of the cut-out portion. The side pieces B have top teeth F and side teeth G. The tail-piece O has lower teeth H and side teeth I.
When a pair of suspender straps or bands K have been placed in position on the clasp, the tail-piece O is bent over, Fig. 1, and its teeth H I made to bite into the bands, and the side pieces B are also bent over and their teeth F G made to bite into said bands. The
other side of the bands is engaged by the teeth D E, Fig. 2. The various teeth cause the bands K to be firmly held, so that they will not pull out of place, and the clasp prevents spreading or lateral dislocation of the bands. 7
If the clasp is to have a smooth finish on top, the top teeth D may be omitted, as the teeth E will generally insure sufficient hold. The tail-piece C, before being bent or looped, may be provided with an eye or ring L.
The cut-outportion of the clasp is not made to extend through the top of the clasp, so as to leave the top part of the clasp closed and to enable said top part to be bent completely about the bands K, so as to prevent spreading of the bands.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A clasp consisting of a body A, side pieces B, and a tail-piece C, said body having its in ner portion out out and the periphery of said cut-out portion provided with teeth, said side pieces having top teeth F and side teeth G, and said tail-piece having lower teeth H and side teeth I, substantially as described.
2. A clasp consist-ing of the body A, provided with top teeth D and having the inner portion cut out, and the periphery of said cut-out portion provided with teeth E,the side pieces B, having top teeth F and side teeth G, and the tail-piece O, havinglower teeth H and side teeth I, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AD OLPH BERNSTEIN.
