MORRIS REINER, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 30,1917.
Application filed March 3, 1916. Serial No. 81,777.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mourns REINER, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to garments and particularly to trousers, and more particularly to the waistband or waistband construction of a garment of this class, and the object of the invention is to provide improved means whereby the trousers will be held in proper position without the use of suspenders, and without the use of ordinary belts, and by means of which the size of the trousers at the waistband may be easily adjusted and regulated to fit men of different sizes or waist measurements.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure l is an outside side view of the top part of a pair of trousers provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 an inside view thereof; and Fig. 3 a section on the line 3--8 of Fig. 2.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown at a the front part of a pair of trousers, and at b the back part thereof, and with my improvement the waistband is formed continuously or integrally with the bottom portion of the trousers or, in other words, there is no separation between the waistband and the bottom portion of the trousers, or no stitching between said parts.
lVith my improvement the waistband or top portion-of the trousers are open at each side from the top 0 thereof downwardly to a predetermined point 0 and the front part a of the trousers is composed at the top thereof of an outer portion a and an inner lining a while the back part b is composed at the top thereof of an outer portion 5 and an inner lining 6 The back part b of the trousers is also provided at the oppositesides and rearwardly of the vertical openings 0-c with vertical slots 6 and the front part a is provided with extensions a which pass through the slots 6* and are provided at their rear end with elastic members (Z preferably composed of elastic strips folded into loops as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and are adapted to pass through slits in the lining a and connected with said loops are link devices 6 having hooks 6 adapted to enter or engage eyes If in the lining b of the back part of the trousers.
The formation of the slots 6 and the passage of the extensions a of the front portions (6 of the trousers through said slots form in connection with the back portions 6 of the trousers parts I) to which are secured elastic straps or members 7 to which are secured loop members f of non-elastic material with which are connected link devices 9 similar to the link devices 6, the link devices 9 are provided with hook members g adapted to engage or enter eyes a in the lining a of the front part of the trousers.
With this construction, the front and back parts of the trousers, or the waistband portion thereof, is overlapped, as indicated in Fig. 2, and as shown in Fig. 3 the link members e and g may be connected with the eyes 6 and a at different points, and the size of the trousers at the waistband may be thus regulated and the elastic members (Z and 7 provide means whereby the waistband portion of the trousers will yield under strain, while at the same time holding said waistband portion of the trousers tight around the waist.
It will be understood that the elastic member 7' may be double to correspond with the elastic member (Z, or both of said elastic members may be made single, and other changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, What 100 I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A. pair of trousers having a waistband portion open at the opposite sides, the back part of the waistband portion being pro- 10 vided adjacent to the opening with vertical slots and the front part being provided with extensions adapted to be passed through said slots, said front and back parts of the Waistband portion being provided with having eyes, and said extensions and that part of the back portion of the waistband linings inwardly of said extensions being provided with elastic straps having hook members adapted to engage said eyes. i
2. A pair of trousers having a waistband portion open at the opposite sides, the front tensions being adjustably and detachably connected with said waistband portions.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed my name in 15' presence of the subscribing witnesses this 1st 7 day of March, 1916.
