Toall whbm it mag concern: I
Be it knowntliat I, WILLIAM HfHATToN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at' Lebanonnn the county of Grafton and State ,=Thisinvention consists of an improved apron of the classdesigned particularly for use by laborers, workingmen,- or those engaged in rough workof any kin v The invention resides mainly in the means provided for attaching the apronto the body with regard to the-suspending-strapstherethat the ,apron will readily fit persons of diffor-and the waist-strap utilized for securing Y the a ticl e about the wearer, both the'sus pending and waist straps being adjustable, so
ferent sizes on adjustment of these parts.
For afull description. of the invention and the meritsthereof and also to acquire a knowledge of thedetails of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the followingdescription and accompanying drawings, in wl 1ich Figure 1 is a perspective view of an apron embodying the invention. .Fig; 2 is, alviewof.
the apronwith the attaching-straps detached I v from the connecting buckles therefor.
Corresponding and like. parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in both the views of therdrirwings by the same reference characters. I r
In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates the body of the apron, and the numeral 2. the upper. or bib portion thereof,- the latter being preferably integral with the body portion 1, as in the-maj ority of these aprons at present in use. The suspending means for suspending the apron from the body includes the-shoulderstraps-3, the front extremities of which are permanently att'ached'to the upper corners of the bib portion 2. The straps 3 cross at a point between. the ends and are permnently at tachevd together atthat point at which they extend across each other,'as shown at 4, pref- I i erably by means of stitching or the like.
rear ends of the shoulder-straps 3 are adapted to be adjustably connected with the rear portions of the apron a short distance from the corners thereof, buckles 5 being located at these points to admit of the adjustable 'at- Specification of etters Patent. Application filed June28, 1905. Serial rattan 1:22.
The

The buckles 5 are permanently attached to the apron, and the rear ends of the straps when passed through the buckles 5 are disposed between the side portions of the apron. at the rear and the body of the wearer, and are thus not likely to catch in machinery or be in the way, this being of no small advantage for obvious reasons.
In addition to the shoulder-straps 3 a waiststrap 6" is used, and this strap is permanently connected at one end, -'as shown at 7, to one of the upper corners of the apron 1, a buckle 8 being carried by the strap 6 and having a loop .9, which may be readily engaged over a button 10, attached to the rear corner of the apron opposite that to which the strap '6 is ermanently attached, as indicated at 7.
adjustment of said strap 6 maybe varied,- admitting of connection of the rear portions of the apron when the latter is used by'persons bufckle 8 is adjustable in the length of the waist-strap 6, so that the Waist of different sizes. The provision of the waiststrap 6 as before set forth obviates the necessity of use of strings or like parts to connect the rear portions of the apron 1, such being inconvenient and not. substantial, as will be readily appreciated. I c
It will be noted that the construction-of the apron as hereinbefor'e set forth is particularly advantageous in that the adjustment of the attaching means is permanent once made.-
'Also' an important advantage resides in the use of buckle connections,- which obviate'all likelihood of injury'to the clothing. of the wearer. I
Having1 thus described the invention, what is claims as new 1s'.
An apron provided with a g j and the bib portion 2, shouldersstraps 3 permanentl attached at their front ends to the upper e ge of the bib portion of the apron on the inner side thereof and crossing rearwardly and permanently secured together at their point of crossing, buckles 5 attached to the side edges of the body portion of the a ron near the rear thereof andon the inner s1 e of the apron, the ends of said shoulder-straps bodyportion 1 being adjustably'secured insaid buckles and designed to be passed. downwardly therefrom on the inner sideof the apron, and a waiststrap 6 permanently attached atone end to one In testimony whereof I a-ffix my signature rear edge of the apron-body on the inner side 111 presence of two witnesses. thereof and provided at lts other end with an adjustable buckle 8 provided with a loop 9, 7 WILLIAM HATTON' 5 and a button 10 or like member attached to W'itnesses:
