Description
BELLE M. GRAYSON, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
SUPPORTING-GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 12, 1907.
Application filed March 14, 1906. Serial No: 305,931.
To ail whom it mag/ concern:
Be it known that I, BELLE M. GRAYsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Supporting-Garments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in supporting-garments.
The object of my invention is to provide a form of construction in which a shoulderbrace is held in the proper position on the shoulder by means of the garment to which it is permanently connected, the shoulderbrace forming a part of such garment and also serving as a means for attaching a hosesupporter.
A further object of my invention is to provide a form of construction in which the strain and pressure of the hose-supporter is 1zgpplied entirely to the bony parts of the In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a rear view of my invention as it appears in use. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear view illustrating the application of the supporting parts of the invention to the under side of a garment.
Like parts are identified by the same reference characters throughout the several views.
A is a waist or chemise to which the reinforcing fabric is applied, the reinforcing fabric having shoulder-straps B, connecting front members C, and crossed rear members D and D, which are extended at E E over the hips of the wearer and are preferably provided with flaps F F, adapted to facilitate attaching any ordinary hose-supporter G, the members E E preventing the clasps, pins, or other devices for connecting the hose-supporter from contacting with the body or with the lighter fabric of the garment.
It will be observed that the chemise A is provided with short sleeves A, which fit closely to the arms, and the shoulder-straps B are stitched, as indicated at b, to the chemise, so that the shoulder-straps are prevented from slipping either toward the neck or over the shoulders. The crossed mem bers D D may either be connected with each other at the crossing-point or left unconnected. The pull of the hose-supporter upon the members D D tends to draw the shoulders backwardly. The material composing the members B, C, and E is of sufficient strength for the desired purpose, and will of course be a heavier and stronger material than that composing the body of the chemise. It may be either exterior to the chemise or applied to the interior surface, as shown in Fig. 3, the construction in the latter figure being otherwise the same as that shown in Fig.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a garment for the upper portion of the body, of a strengthening fabric secured to the garment over the shoulders and at the front and rear thereof; said strengthening fabric having on the rear side downwardly-extending crossed members having their lower portions extended in the form of flaps substantially covering the hips of the wearer and extending to the front of the leg at their lower ends, and a set of hose supporters connected with each of said flaps near their lower ends.
2. The combination with a garment for the upper portion of the body, of a strengthening fabric secured to the garment over the shoulders and at the front and rear thereof, said strengthening fabric having on the rear side downwardly-extending crossed members having their lower portions extended in the form of flaps substantially covering the hips of the wearer and extending to the front of the leg at their lower ends, and a set of hosesupporters connected with each of said flaps near their lower ends, said flaps being pro vided with auxiliary flaps on their outer surfaces to which the hose-supporters may be secured by means of suitable fastenings.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the. presence of two witnesses.
BELLE M. GRAYSON. Witnesses:
LEVERETT 0. WHEELER, JAs. B. ERWIN.
