To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ANDREW J. HAUN, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Bransoomb, in the county of Mendocino and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in GarmentSup-porters, Of which the following is a specification.

This invention. relates to garment sup porters and specifically to stocking supporters. It has particular reference to supporters of that type in which the garments are si-ipported mainly from the waist of the wearer. V

The invention has for its object to produce a supporter of simple and improvedconstruction which may be worn comfortably without undue downward pressure .on the abdomen.

A further object of the invention is to produce a supporter comprising two belts connected together at the rearward portions thereof, said belts diverging forwardly, said belts being provided with fastening devices whereby the upper belt is secured around the waist of the wearer and the lower belt below the abdomen; braces or connecting (18-. vices being provided for the forward portions of the belts together with supporter webbings and grips connected therewith.

With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the in ventionis better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

in the practice of my invention, two belts are provided, via, an upper belt A and .a lower belt B. Thes belts are stitched or otherwise secured together intermediate the ends thereof at what is practically the back portion, said intermediate or back portions of the belts being overlapped as indicated at 1'5 and joined together by rows of stitching 16, said overlapped portions, as well as the rows of stitching, being arranged so as to converge in the direction of the ends of the respective belts, the greatest width of the overlap being about midway between the ends of the belts from which the said overlap converges, and the ends of the respective belts are made to diverge as clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 2.. The upper belt A is provided with fastening means at the ends thereof such as an ordinary button and buttonhole Hand 18, and similar fasten- 111g means, 19 and -20, may be used to oin or connect the ends of the lower belt B. It will be regarded, however, as entirely within the scope of the invention to provide fastening means of any well known kind whereby the ends of the respective belts may be adjustably connected together to compensate for variations in the girth of the wearer. The upper belt A is adapted to be fastened around the waist of the wearer. as clearly seen in Fig. l, and the ends of the lowerbelt are joined together below the abdomen. The upper belt is provided near the ends thereof with down wardly extending tabs or brace members 21, said tabs being arranged to diverge downwardly, being terminally connected at their lower ends with the end portions of the lower belt B. Owing to the downward di-' vergence of the tabs the lower ends of the latter will be connected with the belt 18 at a distance from the ends of said belt materially greater than that at which the upper ends of the tabs are connected with the belt A from the ends thereof. To provide for the adjustment of the device to fit persons of different waist measure,

the backportions of the belts may be verti-- cally divided, as seen in Fig. 2, and provided with eyelets 24 for the reception of a lace 25.

By the improved construction herein shown, the supporter is adapted to be secured about the waist of the wearer without necessity for securing it very tightly, it being additionally secured by the lower'belt which passes around the hips and below the abdomen of the wearer. The webbings carrying the grips will be quite short and there will be no danger of the stockings with which they are connected being twisted about the limbs of the wearer. There will be no uncomfortable downward strain upon the waist and it will be especially noted that there will be no uncomfortable strain or pressure against the abdomen, enabling the device to be worn with perfect comfort even 'when'no corsetsare'worn, and by persons ina delicate state of health. The device may be made of any desired textile material, including tape of proper width, and while only a single web equipped with a grip is shown at each side of the device, no limitationis intended in this respect.

Having thus described the inventiomwhat is claimed as new is:

' 1. A garment supporter comprising two belts overlapped and joined together intermediate their ends at the back portions thereof, the overlap being greatest at the Copies of this patent may be obtained for middle portions of the belts and converging 'in the direction of the ends of the belts,

said ends being thereby made to diverge, said belts being provided with fastening means at their respective ends, downwardly extending tabs secured to the upper belt near the ends thereof and connected with the lower belt at a greater distance from the ends thereof, and grip carrying webs connected with the lower belt at the junctures thereof with the lower ends of the tabs.

2. A garment supporter comprising two belts overlapped and joined together intermediate their ends at the back portions thereof, the overlap being greatest at the middle portions of the belts and converging in the direction of the ends of the belts, said ends being thereby made to diverge, said belts being provided with fastening means at their respective ends, downwardly extending tabs secured to the upper belt near the ends thereof and connected with the lower belt ata greater distance from the ends thereof, and grip carrying webs connected with the lower-belt at the junctures thereof with the lower ends of the tabs, the joined and overlapped back portions of the belts being divided and provided with eyelets for the reception of lacing.
