Description

A. L. VILANDRER.
SUSFENDER GABTER. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 23. 1916.
Patented Sept. 12, 1916.
ANNA LOUISE VILANDRER, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
SUSPENDER-GARTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed .Tune 23, 1916. Serial No. 105,427.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, ANNA LOUISE V11.- ANDRER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San'Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Garters, of Which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to childrens suspender arters.
The 0 ject of my invention is to. provide a childs garter of the suspender type which will relieve the objectionable forward strains or pulls found by experience to be present in the use of such garters as commonly found on the market. In the ordinary suspender .garters the pull'or strain is straight down on each side, which causes the child to involuntarily bend forward to escape the annoyance of this action and so the forward stoop of the shoulders becomes a fixed habit. With my construction this straight down pull is avoided and the shoulder straps afford a good brace, which tends to make the child stand erect, and that without any annoyance at all. In fact, all down pulls on one side are by my improvements transferred fromthe shoulder strap on that side diagonally acrossto the opposite shoulder strap, thereby making an even pull both front and back and avoiding any tendency toward making the child bend forward. This object I accomplish by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure-l is a perspective showing the improved garters. Fig.2 is a front view thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear view thereof, and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view in line 2-2, Fig. 2.
A designates the waistband provided at its front meetingends with a button a and buttonholes a, respectively. Beyond the button a are the two front drawers buttons (1. 0. while at the'sides are the two drawers buttons a 0. At the middle of the back is a drawers button a, while at opposite sides to form the tabs 6 b to which any suitable form of elastic stocking supporters C C are adjustably and removably secured by means of buckles 0 at the upper ends thereof. These tabs 6 of doubled material looped as described are very strong and the extra thickness renders'the buckles c 0 less liable to slip, and there are no raw edges to fray or to be hemmed. A pair of supporters will be placed at each side.
The shoulder straps B B do not cross at the front, but incline toward each other to a point at about the middle of the childs chest where they are permanently connected by the short cross piece B. From the cross piece B the straps B extend downwardly at a divergence and pass through the two plies of the waistband A at a point midway the buttons a and a The lower front ends of the straps B B are also folded upon themselves and stitched to the waistband to form the depending front tabs 6 b, which likewise receive elastic stocking supporting devices O C, also provided with buckles c 0. The waistband and shoulder straps are formed of inelastic webbing, which is more easily washed than elastic webbing, and is also cheaper. The only elastic webbing is that in the stocking supporters C C, and these supporters are readily removable when the straps and waistband are to be washed.- By this construction it will be seen that any down pull onthe end of one shoulder strap will be transferred diagonally upward and across the back or chest of the wearer, as the casemay be, and over the shoulder and down to the lower end of the other strap, where it will be relieved by the elastic stocking supporter C at that point. There will be no pull tending to bend the child forward, but the tendency will be to hold the body erect, as there is a distinct shoulder-brace efleot. The shoulder straps and waistband will last a long time, as there is no rubber webbing, and when the elastic stocking supporters G wear out new ones may be applied at small expense. 1
I contemplate making the Suspender garters in sizes to suit children of different ages, and so no adjusting of the shoulder straps relative to each other-or to the waistband will be required.
What I claim is:
1. A suspender garter comprising'a waistband, shoulder straps crossed at the rear secured near their lower diverging ends to the PatentedSept. 12, 1916.
waistband and extending therebelow to form separate and independent stocking supporter tabs; the front portions of the straps extended toward each other and firmly connected together with their lower ends diverging and secured to the waistband and extended therebelow to form separate and independent stocking-supporter tabs.
2. A suspender garter comprising a Waistband, shoulder straps crossed at the back with their lower ends diverging and secured to the waistband; the lower extremities being folded upon themselves below the waistband to form two-ply separate and independent stocking-supporter tabs, the front portions of the straps being inclined toward each other and secured together intermediate their ends with their lower portions diverging and secured to the waistband and the lower extremities of the straps being doubled upon themselves to form separate and independent depending two-ply stocking-supporter tabs.
3. A suspender garter comprising a waistband, shoulder straps secured together at the back and front with their lower front and rear ends diverging and secured to the Waistband; the whole formed of inelastic webbing and separate and independent elastic stocking supporters depending from each side of the waistband and each forming a continuation of the several ends of the shoulder straps.
4. A suspender garter comprising a waistband having the usual buttons, shoulder straps formed of inelastic material secured together at the back and front with their front and rear ends diverging and secured to the waistband; the extremities of the front and rear portions of the straps extending below the waistband to form separate and independent depending tabs, and an elastic stocking supporter adjustably and removably mounted on each of said tabs.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ANNA LOUISE VILANDRER.
