Description

I 'PATENTED APR. 21, 1903. M. GOODMAN.
BOYS SUSPENDERS. I APPLICATION FILED DEC. 22, 1962.

UNITED STA-res ATENT OFFICE.
MAX GOODMAN, OF, NEW.YORK, N. Y.
BOYS SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 726,045, dated April 21, 1903. Application filed December 22, 1902. Serial No. 136,093- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boys suspendersthat is to say, snspenderswhich are intended to be worn with trousers with interior waistbands with buttonholes'. Heretofore these trousers were buttoned to the waist or blouse worn by boys. The inconvenience connected with this style of trousers is the frequent buttoning to and unbuttoning from the waistband. Another inconvenience is caused by the non-elastic connection of the waistband of the trousers with the waist, which, especially when sitting down or stooping, on'account of the non-elasticity of the parts causes inconvenience to the wearer. Various devices have been proposed for overcoming these defects, such as a combination belt and suspenders or elastics between the waistband and the trousers; but they did not entirely overcome these objections.
The object of my invention is to furnish a pair of suspenders for boys which when once attached remain on the trousers until they are to be removed and applied to another pair of trousers, and, secondly, by which the support not only of the trousers but also of the drawers and stockings is obtained in a superior and more comfortable manner than heretofore, forthe reason that the suspenders provide a certain degree of elasticity; and for this purpose the invention consists of a pair of suspenders the shoulderstraps of which are connected with each other at their rear ends and with three suspender-ends, all provided with buttons, the middle one being provided with two buttons for connection with the waistband of the trousers and drawers, while the front ends of the shoulderstraps are provided each with two suspenderends, one provided with two buttons for connection with the trousers and drawers and with a V-shaped strap portion connecting the front ends of the suspender-straps with the front of the waistband of the trousers, said V-shaped connecting portion being also blouse.
- l'provided with two buttons for the front part .of the trousers and drawers.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved suspenders shownas attached to the Waistband of a pair of boys trousers and drawers; and Figs. 2 and3 are detail vertical transverse sections, respectively, on lines 2 2 and 3 3, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
I 7 Referring to the drawings, A represents a pair of boys trousers, and B the waistband of the same. The waistband is provided with the usual buttonholes b at the front, side, and rear in the same manner as heretofore when the trousers were supported on the waist or The suspenders are composed of shoulder-straps 0, having buckles for adj usting their length, the shoulder-straps being connected at their rear ends and provided with three Suspender-ends O, to the ends of which buttons (1 are. attached The middle suspender-end O is made longer than the side Suspender-ends and is provided with a second button d below the button d, so as to be attached to the waistband of the trousers A, as well as to the waistband of the drawers W. To each front end of the shoulder-straps O is applied a link 6 and to each link two suspender-ends E E, the outer one of which is extended and provided with two buttons m n and m m, respectively, one below the other, so asto be connected, respectively, with the waistbands of the trousers and drawers. In addition thereto the front links of the shoul der-straps A'areprovided with a V-shaped connecting strap D, the lower doubled-up end of which is provided with two buttons 5 t for the trousers and drawers, respectively.
The front ends of the Suspender-straps, as well as theEV-Shaped connecting-strap D, are preferably made of elastic webbing and the shoulder-straps of non-elastic webbing; but it is obvious that the suspender-ends may be made of non-elastic webbing and the shoulder-straps of elastic webbing. p
The suspenders are wornunder theshirtwaist or blouse and have the advantages that they support the trousers and drawers and hose at the same time; further, that the same size of suspenders can be used by boys of varying size and age, inasmuch as the shoulder-straps can be lengthened or shortened in the same manner as ordinary mens suspenders; that their construction is of extreme simplicity and cheapness; that they form a better and more comfortable support for boys trousers and drawers than the support heretofore in use; that they can remain on the trousers when once applied thereto without being detached therefrom when taking off or putting on the trousers, and that they give an elastic yielding support for the rear parts of the trousers and drawers when bending or stooping, which could not be obtained with the same facility heretofore.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A pair of boys suspenders, consisting of adjustable shoulder-straps, three suspenderends connected with the rear ends of said straps, two Suspender-ends connected with the front ends of said straps, and a V-shaped connecting-strap between the front ends of the shoulder-straps, all the Suspender-ends and V-shaped strap being provided with buttons, substantially as set forth.
2. A pair of boys suspenders, consisting of adjustable shoulder-straps, three suspenderends attached to the rear ends of said straps, the middle one being of greater length and provided with two buttons, one below the other, two suspender-ends attached to the front ends of each shoulder-strap, one being longer than the other and provided with two buttons, one below the other, and a V-shaped connecting-strap between the front ends of the shoulder-straps, said V-shaped strap being also provided with two buttons, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX GOODMAN.
