Description

LADY S GIRDLE Filed Nov. 2, 1927 INVENTOR Patented May 28, 1929].
r LADYS GIRDLE.
Application filed November 2, 1927. Serial no; 230,605.
This invention relates to improvements ladies girdles.
The primaryobject of the invention is to provide a girdle for smoothly fitting about the waist of a wearer to hold the abdomen ilat and 'firm and at the same time confine that bulge of flesh at the hips, besides serving as a garter supporter for holding the hose of a wearer snugl upon the legs.
Another 0 ject is to provide a combined girdle and hose supporter in which the strain upon the garters due to certain natural positions of a wearer is placed upon the back and hips of the wearer which tends to press inwardly upon the flesh about the hips.
A further object resides in a combined girdle and hose supporter for ladies wear, in which the garter straps engage the tops of the hose of a wearer at the outer and inner sides thereof leaving the frontof the hose free of any connection, the garter straps connecting with the hose on the inner sides .of the wearers legs being suspended from the rear of the girdle and brought diagonally 9 across the hips and front of the thighs.
A still further object is the provision of a combination garment of the kind above mentioned which is simple in construction, comfortable when worn and which is no more costly of manufacture than similar garments now, on the market.
l/Vith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construe tion and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved girdle in position upon a wearer looking at the front thereof.
Figure 2 is a similar view but looking toward the rear thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the girdle per se.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view therethrough.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference numeral 10 designates my improved girdle in its entirety, which includes a front piece 11 and 'a back piece 12,
both of which are of a non-elastic fabric such as satin, brocade or the like, while inter posed between and stitched to the front and back pieces are elastic webs These webs are disposedat the sides of the garment to confine the. bulge of flesh at that part of the human body when the girdle is in position thereon. The front and back piecetogether with the elastic webs co-act to provide a complete waist encircling band which is wider at the front than at the back to comfortably fit across the abdomen of a wearer and to hold when the girdle is worn. The ends of the straps 14 have adjustable lengths of. garter and across the front of the thigh ofa wearer elastic 15 attached thereto and which suspend garter clasps 16 of the usual well-known construction.
Suspended from the lower edge'of the girdle at thefront are outer side garter straps or tabs 17, to which adjustable lengths of garter elastic 18 are attached and which have garter clasps 19 at the ends thereof f In use, the girdle encircles the waist of the wearer and the outer side garters attach t0 the wearers hose at the outer sides thereof. The garter straps 14 are then brought forward over the hips of the wearer to place a slight pressure thereon to confine the flesh at that part of the body, after which the clasps 16 are engaged with the inside of the wearers hose. By attaching the garter straps to the outer and inner sides of the hose, the same permits bending of the knee'of the wearer without fear of damaging the hose, while any natural body strainsupon the hose are taken up at the back of the girdle. Thegarters also prevent slipping of the girdle upon the wearer thus assuring complete comfort at all times.
While I'have described what I deem to be the mostdesirable embodiment-of my invention, itis obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing. fromthe spirit of my invention, and Itherefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.
WVhat is claimed as new is t 1. A'garment of the class described comprising a waist encircling band having elastie webs at the sides thereof, a pair of garter straps attached at the'back of said band hav 'ing hose engaging clasps at the free ends" thereof, said garter straps being wider at their joinder with said band than at the outer garter straps suspended from the back ofsaid band and being widerat their joinder at the back of said hand than at their outer ends and overlying the sides of said bandand crossing said first mentioned garter straps.
3. A garment of the class described comprising a waist encircling band embodying a front piece of non-elastic material, a back piece of the same material, elastic Webs stitched to said front and back pieces, and garter straps integral with said back piece and extending forwardly and downwardly to overlie said elastic webs.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my, signature.
EDWARD HAUSER.
