United States Patent COMBINATION DETACHABLE BRASSIERE, GIRDLE, AND THE LIKE Helen Harris, Staten Island, N. Y.
Application June 18, 1953, Serial No. 362,507
2 Claims. (Cl. 2-42) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in undergarments for ladies and, more particularly, to such undergarments of the combined brassiere and girdle or garter belt or waistband type.
The invention has for its object the provision of a combination garment as mentioned which is characterized by an elastic waistband disposed between the brassiere and its associated girdle or garter belt for concealing and controlling the flesh of the wearer at the waistline.
A modification of the invention proposes the construction of a brassiere with a waistband for concealing and controlling the flesh of the wearer at the waistline.
Another object of the invention is to provide :a combined brassiere, waistband and girdle with separable fastening means for detachably connecting the brassiere and waistband to the girdle.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a combined brassiere, waistband and garter belt with separable fastening means for detachably connecting the Waistband to the brassiere and garter belt.
A specific object of the invention is to provide an nndergarment in the form of a brassiere with an elastic waistband for concealing and supporting the flesh of the wearer at the waistline, the waistband being stretchan undergarment of the class referred to which is easy to manufacture, which can be sold at a reasonable cost and which will be eifective for its intended purposes in use.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig, 1 is a rear perspective view of a ladys undergarment embodying the features of the present invention, shown alone and in an open position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof shown in operative use on the wearer.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing a modified form of the present invention.
Fig. 4 is a rear elevational viewof a ladys undergarment embodying still another form of the present invention.
Fig. 5 is a front elevational view thereof.
Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view taken on the plane of the line 66 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional View taken on the plane of the line 7--7 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a side elevational view of the waistband of Fig. 4.
Fig. 9 is a front elevational view of a combined bras- Patented Oct. 30, 1956 siere and garter belt embodying still another form of the invention.
Fig. 10 is a rear elevational view thereof.
Referring now to Figs. l-2, a combination ladys undergarment is illustrated which includes a brassiere 15 provided with a cloth bust-encircling section having heavy elastic body straps 16 stretchable in both directions, extending from the ends of said section and forming lateral extensions thereof, substantially as illustrated. Reinforcing strips 17 are provided at the adjacent free ends of straps 16, the strips 17 being provided with cooperating eyes 18 and loops 19 whereby to secure the brassiere 15 about the body, as shown in Fig. 2.
The brassiere 15 is open at the front, as at 20, and is provided with a pair of adjustable shoulder straps 21.
A pair of waistbands 22 :of heavy elastic material stretchable in both directions are secured to the ends of body straps 16 beneath reinforcing strips 17 by stitching 23.
The free ends of waistbands 22 are provided with reinforcing strips 24 secured by stitching 25, the strips 24 being provided with cooperating eyes 26 and loops 27 whereby to secure the waistbands 22 about the waist, as shown in Fig. 2, said waistbands and the horizontal and vertical tension thereof serving to conceal and control the flesh of the wearer at the waistline. This construction permits a continuous open space 29 between the brassiere 15 and the top edges of bands 22 to permit breathing Without discomfort.
A pair of spring clips 28 are secured to the bottom edges of body straps 16 adjacent the strips 17 at the rear of the brassiere, and serve to connect the construction with a girdle 30, avoiding bulges intermediate the bottom of bands 16 and the top of girdle 30. Thus, the bands 16 close the space between the brassiere 15 and girdle 30 around the entire circumference of the waist, serving thereby to conceal and control the flesh of the wearer at the waistline. Due to the construction, the bands 22 are connected to the brassiere only along strips 17, providing greater comfort and easier breathing. The bands 22 are also connected to the girdle 30 only by clips 28, for'the same reason.
It will be noted that the above construction permits the brassiere 15 and bands 22 to be worn interchangeably with varying garter belts and girdles, not shown.
Referring now to Fig. 3, there is shown a modified form. of the invention differing from the first form in the permanent attachment of the bands 22 to girdle 30 by means of stitching 31.
In other respects, the form of the invention shown in Fig 3 is the same as that shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and like reference numerals identify like parts throughout the several views.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 4 to 8, inclusive, a combination ladys undergarment is illustrated which comprises essentially a brassiere 15 and a girdle 16'. A salient feature of the present invention is the provision of a waistband 17' between the brassiere 15' and the girdle 16' at the rear and sides of the garment. The waistband is formed of heavy elastic material and is set on the bias so that it stretches horizontally and vertically. This waistband extends around the back and sides of the garment and is connected permanently to the bottom edge of the brassiere 15 by a row of stitching 18'. The waistband is detachably connected to the girdle 16 at the rear and sides thereof by separable fastening elements 19 carried by tapes 19 sewed along the adjacent meeting edges of the waistband and girdle. The fastening elements are actuated by a slidable finger piece 20'.
The brassiere 15' opens at the front as indicated at 21' and is provided with the conventional pair of shoulder straps 22'.
The waistband 17 closes the space between the bias siere 15 and girdle 16 at the rear and sides of the garment arid serves to conceal and control the fiesh of the wearer at the waistline. This construction permits a space 23' at the front of the garment between the brassiere and the girdle to permit breathing without discomfort.
It will be understood, of course, that the Waistband 17' may be detachably connected to the brassiere 1.5 by separable fastening elements such as the elements 19 if desired.
In Figs. 9 and 10, a waistband 17", similar in construction to the waistband 17, is shown detachably connected to the rear and side portions of a conventional brassiere 15" and a conventional garter belt 24 for supporting hose supports 25". In this form of the invention, the bottom and side edges of the brassiere 15 have a plurality of spaced snap fastener socket elements 26" and the waistband 17" has a plurality of snap fastener stud elements 27" for coacting with the socket elements 26 for detachably fastening the waistband to the brassiere. The waistband is similarly detachably connected to the garter belt by snap fastener socket elements 28 and snap fastener stud elements 29 on the adjacent meeting edges of the waistband and garter belt, respectively. The waistband serves to conceal and control the flesh of the wearer between the brassiere and garter belt at the waistline.
In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that shown in Figs. 4-8 and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
