Description

. I INVENTOR.
{Ya/@141? Jz'eye! May 10, 1949. s. A. SIEGEL FIGURE-FREE MATERNITY SUSPENDER Filed March 26, 1948 Patented May 10, 1949 NlTED srA 2,469,793 FIGURE-FREE MATERNITY SUSPENDER Sally Ann Siegel, Chicago, Ill. Application March 26, 1948, Serial No. 17,147
3 Claims.
The instant invention relates to maternity suspenders or supporters and more particularly to a supporter for use by the modern-mother-to-be which will leave the figure free for maximum control thereof and, in addition, will effectively support the abdomen without constriction.
Yet another aim is the formation of a maternity suspender of the type indicated embodying as its features balanced side and front garters to eliminate uncomfortable pull; which will include a combined buttocks and back-supporting portion resulting in maximum comfort to the lumbar and sacro-iliac regions to minimize backache and which will aid in eliminating extreme swayback appearance.
Still another object is the making of a maternity supporter including front and back shoulder straps combined with an adjustable strap for the abdomen constituting an evenly-distributed lift for the latter.
The above and other aims and objects will be apparent from the detailed description hereinafter appearing when taken in conjunction with the appended drawings showing a preferred embodiment of the invention and to which attention is now directed and in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational View of the maternity suspender as worn by a prospective mother;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the maternity suspender, also as worn, showing the back portion and rear shoulder straps in position;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front elevational view illustrating the adjustable abdomen-supporting strap; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line Q--& of
Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing by reference characters, Figs. 1 and 2 show the novel suspender as worn by a prospective mother W. Said suspender embodies as its novel features an inelastic buttocks-supporting portion B of rayon satin or similar textile material, and, as shown, the portion B extends upwardly from the buttocks sufficiently high to give maximum comfort to the lumbar and sacro-iliac regions of the wearer. Member B has an abdominal belt integral therewith to which more detailed attention will be given hereinafter. The inside bottom of the buttocks support may be plushed for a width of one inch (not shown). The suspender further includes long elastic Webbing straps l l and I2 crossing on the back of the wearer and are stitched or otherwise secured together as at H3, or if desired, the stitching may be omitted and the straps cross unsecured. One end of each of 2 straps I I and I2 is secured to the uppermost edge of the buttocks support B as at M. Webs H and i2 extend over the shoulder of the wearer W and down the front of the latter, each web passing adjacent to the outer side of a breast.
Abdominal belt it, as will be seen, includes two strap portions which extend from the opposed edges of the support B adjacent stitching i4, downwardly below and about the abdomen of the wearer W. The strap portions are preferably integral with the buttocks member and overlap as at ill and are provided with adjustable fasteners such as snap fasteners 2 I, although other adjustable fastening means may be employed. A side garter of elastic webbing i6 is sewed or other- Wise secured to member B as at It.
Webbing straps II and I2 each passes through a slot l5, see Fig. 4, in the belt NJ, with each strap terminating in a front garter section il. It will be understood that both the straps H and I2, and garters l6 and i1, may be provided with adjustable means, such as buckles, for lengthening or shortening same, as is Well-known in the art.
From the above, it is now apparent that the aforementioned objects of the invention have been realized. It will be seen that the straps automatically adjust themselves to any position the wearer may assume; that the balanced side and front garters eliminate uncomfortable pull; that the shoulder straps produce an evenly distributed lift to the adjustable strap beneath the abdomen. The supporter is designed in various sizesshort, average and tall; is completely Washable with soap and water; and is plushed with velvet where needed.
Various changes may be made in the specific details disclosed as will be obvious to those skilled in the art. It is contemplated to cover all such and to be limited in this respect only as may be necessary by the scope of the claims hereto appended.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A maternity supporter comprising an inelastic textile portion shaped to fit the buttocks and partially extending upwardly to support the back to give maximum comfort to the lumbar and sacro-iliac regions, continuous elastic webbing secured to and extending from the upper edge of the buttocks portion, over the shoulders and downwardly over the front of the wearer and terminating in garter portions, a narrow abdominal strap secured to and extending laterally from opposed upper edges of said buttocks portion, the latter having side garter members.
2. A maternity supporter comprising an inelastic textile portion shaped to fit the buttocks, continuous elastic webbing straps secured to the upper edge of said buttocks portion, said straps extending over the shoulders and downwardly over the front of the wearer and terminating in front garter portions, side elastic garters secured to the lowermost corners of said buttocks portion, narrow abdominal strap sections integral with and extending laterally from opposed upper edges of said buttocks portion, each of said sections having a slot thru which an elastic Webbing strap passes.
3. The structure of claim 2,'said strap sections overlapping and being adjustably secured to each other.
