Description

R. L. BLAIR PANTY GIRDLE July 16, 1968 Filed Dec. 1, 1965 m- W. m.
United States Patent 3,392,733 PANTY GIRDLE Ronald L. Blair, 2650 W. Belden 'Ave.,
Chicago, II]. 60647 Filed'Dec. 1, 1965, Ser. No.-510,779 8 Claims. (Cl. 128-528) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to improvements in panty girdles.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a panty girdle which will accommodate itself to the different and various rises of different sized women.
The female torso varies in length, consequently, the rise will vary. The rise of a woman is measured from the waistline in front, around the crotch and up to the same waistline point in the back. The rise varies from 26 inches for a short woman to 32 inches for a taller woman with a longer torso. Prior to the present invention panty girdles had to be made in three to four different rise lengths to accommodate petit, average and long rise women. This necessitated a large inventory of different sizes to accommodate the various rises of the female torso. With the present invention this is eliminated and a single panty girdle may be provided which will accommodate itself to short, intermediate and long rise lengths.
Prior to this invention it was found that if a tall woman put on the conventional panty girdle it would pull down from the waistline and she would have to constantly readjust or pull up the garment. In a short woman the panty girdle would have a tendency to roll over at the waistline, becoming bulky and uncomfortable at the waist. With the panty girdle of the present invention there is provided a garment which will properly fit various torso lengths of short, intermediate and tall women.
Other objects will become apparent as this description progresses.
In the drawings:
FIGURE 1 is a front view of the panty girdle forming this invention.
FIGURE 2 is a view taken on lines 22 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a rear view of the panty girdle, and
FIGURE 4 is a flattened view of the crotch insert or crotch panel.
The garment comprises essentially a main body portion and depending legs 1212, with a crotch insert or crotch panel generally indicated at 14, with the crotch insert or crotch panel connecting the front and back of the panty girdle and forming a portion of the legs of the garment.
The main body portion 10 of the garment is formed essentially from two section of material 16 and 18. The material of each of the two sections 16 and 18 has a twoway stretch, i.e., it is stretchable horizontally as well as vertically. A material known as Spandex is recommended for such purpose. The sections 16 and 18 are sewn or joined along the rear of the garment by zig-zag stitching,
indicated at 20, on a vertical line from the top of the garment to the crotch insert 14. The sections 16 and 18 are cut or formed so that they each form the outer side portions 22, as well as the front and back portions 24 and 26 of each of the legs of the garment. The two sections 3,392,733 Patented July 16, 1968 " ice 16 and 18 are sewn or joined along the front of the garment by zig-zag stitching, indicated at 28, on a vertical line from the top of the garment to the crotch insert. If desired, other features may be incorporated in the front of the garment for the waist portion. The configuration and styling of the front of the main body portion is immaterial insofar as the present invention is concerned.
Between the front and rear of the garment there is provided a crotch insert or crotch panel generaly designated by the numeral 14. The.crotch insert in flattened position is of a generaly diamond shaped configuration, as best shown in FIG. 4. It is formed preferably of tricot material which has a two-way stretch. The crotch insert or panel 14 in addition to forming the crotch of the garment also forms the inner side portions 30 of the legs 1212 of the garment. That is, the crotch insert 14 extends transversely of the garment completely across the crotch to the opposite edges of the legs of the garment, and thereby forms the crotch as well as the inner side portions of the legs of the garment. The crotch insert 14 is secured by a line of stitching 32 along the front and a similar line of stitching 34 along the rear. The lines of stitchings 32 and 34 connect the crotch insert or crotch panel to the two sections 16 and 18 of the main body portion. The crotch panel 14 thus forms the bottom connecting member between the front and rear of the panty girdle. When the garment is worn the crotch panel will snugly engage the crotch of the body, as well as the full inner portions of the thighs of the body.
An elastic band 36 is stitched by two lines of zig- zag stitching 38 and 40 to the lower edge of each of the leg portions of the garment and said elastic band also extends across and is stitched to the outer edge of the insert panel 14, as at 42, by the said lines of stitching. An elastic waistband 44 is stitched by two lines of Zig- zag stitching 46 and 48 to the upper portion of the garment at the waistline.
The crotch panel 14 has a stretch of approximately 250% in the direction of its length, indicated by the letters aa in FIG. 4, and has a stretch of approximately 350% through the center of the crotch taken transversely and indicated by the letters b-b in FIG. 4. The stretchable crotch panel 14 permits the garment to be worn by women having different rise lengths. The same garment may be worn by women having rise lengths between 26 inches and 32 inches, and is sufficient. to include short, intermediate and long torsos. When a woman wearing this garment sits down, the crotch releases in tension and allows the thighs to spread. Thus a garment is produced which will be more comfortable than the prior garments because the release or expansion of the thigh portion of the garment is directly attributable to the release or stretch of the crotch panel 14.
With this invention the panty garment may be worn so that the waistband of the garment coincides with the waistline of the torso and the crotch panel will accommodate itself to the various rise lengths. When the woman sits the seat of the garment will expand, as will the leg portions, since the crotch material has sufiicient stretch to accommodate the expansion. Also, a woman will not have a line on the thighs, as is common with previous type panty girdles, even though she is in a sitting position, as the panty girdle will release with the expansion of the seat or thighs. This invention therefore produces a very comfortable garment.
It will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made from the foregoing without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A panty girdle garment to accommodate itself to various rise lengths of the torso of the wearer, said garment having a body and leg portions, a single crotch panel of elastic material secured to said body and leg portions in which the crotch panel forms the crotch of the garment and also forms the inner side portions of the leg 'portions of the garment, said crotch panel extending transversely of the garment across the crotch to approximately the opposite edges of the leg portions of the garment and not extending upwardly thereof into the body of the garment, said crotch panel having a stretch along its length and a stretch transversely of the panel with the transverse stretch of the panel through the center of the crotch substantially greater than the stretch of the panel in the direction of its length so that the garment accommodates itself to various rise lengths of the torso of the wearer.
2. A garment defined in claim 1 in which the body and leg portions are formed of an elastic material and of an elasticity different than the elasticity of the crotch panel.
3. A garment defined in claim 1 in which the crotch panel has a stretch along its length of approximately 250%.
4. A garment defined in claim 1 in which the crotch panel has a stretch transversely of the panel of approxi mately 350%.
5. A garment defined in claim 1 in which the crotch panel has a stretch along its length of approximately 250% and has a stretch transversely of the panel of ap proximately 350%.
6. A garment defined in claim 1 in which the crotch panel is generally diamond shaped.
7. A garment defined in claim 1 in which the body and leg portions of the garment are formed essentially of two sections of material, each having a two-way stretch.
8. A garment defined in claim 1 in which an elastic band is secured to the outer edges of the leg portions with the elastic band spanning the crotch panel along the inner side of the leg portion.
