Description

April 17, 1934- G. M. P. YERKES 3 BRASSIERE Filed June 27, 1933 MENTOR BY W7 W0 W ATTORNEYS Patented Apr. 17, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BRASSIERE tion of New York Application June 27, 1933, Serial No. 677,772
2 Claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a brassiere which may be worn eifectively and comfortably with backless garments, such as evening dresses, swimming suits, or any other garment in connection with which such a brassiere could be worn.
My invention comprises a brassiere having fulled breast portions terminating in tapered end portions; straps being provided for passing over the shoulders of the wearer, and straps being provided which depend from the brassiere and have leg encircling loops, said depending straps being adapted to be crossed at the back of the wearer below the waistline, the encircling loops for the right and left legs respectively, being continuations of the left and right depending straps respectively.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 represents a front view of the brassiere as in use, and
Fig. 2 represents a back view of the brassiere as in use.
The brassiere comprises two fulled breast portions 1 and 2, composed preferably of elastic woven or knitted material, said breast portions terminating in tapered end portions 3 and 4, preferably made of the same material as the breast portions.
Shoulder straps and 6, preferably of elastic material, are connected at their front ends to the upper edges of the fulled breast portions 1 and 2 of the brassiere, and at their back ends to the tips of the tapered end portions 3 and 4 of the brassiere.
Depending straps 7 and 8 of elastic material are secured at their upper ends to the tips of the tapered end portions 3 and 4 of the brassiere, which elastic straps are provided at their lower ends with elastic leg encircling loops 9 and 10. These depending straps 7 and 8, when the brassire is in use, are crossed at the back of the wearer below the waistline, the right and left leg encircling loops being carried by the straps depending from the left and right tapered end portions respectively of the brassire.
The brassiere may be put on by first placing the shoulder straps over the shoulders of the wearer and positioning the breast portions of the brassire. The depending straps may then be crossed at the back of the wearer and the right leg inserted through the loop of the left strap and the left leg through the loop of the right strap.
These shoulder straps 5 and 6 of the brassiere and the crossed depending straps 7 and 8 with their leg encircling loops 9 and 10 coact to hold the breast and tapered end portions of the brassiere snugly on the wearer and yet leaving the back of the wearer above the waistline free of straps, thus rendering the brassire particularly applicable for use with backless garments of any kind.
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not intend to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but what I claim is:
1. A bra-ssiere including fulled breast portions terminating in tapered end portions having their tips spaced apart and unconnected at the back of the wearer, shoulder straps connected to the breast portions and the tips of the tapered end portions respectively and depending elastic crossed straps secured at their upper ends to the tips of the tapered end portions and being provided at their lower ends with elastic uninterrupted leg encircling loops.
2. A brassiere including fulled breast portions terminating in tapered end portions having their tips spaced apart and unconnected at the back of the wearer, shoulder straps connected to the breast portions and the tips of the tapered end portions respectively and depending elastic crossed straps secured at their upper ends to the tips of the tapered end portions and being provided at their lower ends with elastic uninterrupted leg encircling loops, said depending straps being crossed at the back, below the waistline.
GABRIELLE M. P. YERKES.
