Description

May 12, 1936 E. R. MEINIG UNDERGARMENT Filed June 14, 1934 INVENTOR. EBcfiard/fizmg ATTORNEY.
Patented May 12, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to an under-garment and has for its primary object the provision of an under-garment having a brassiere and panty connected together as a unitary article, an elastic .3 strip being secured to the free edge of the brassiere and a second elastic strip secured to the under-garment at the point of juncture of the brassiere and panty so that the brassiere may be tightly drawn about the bust of the wearer to it) support the same.
An object of the invention resides in locating resilient strips at the top and bottom portions of the brassiere so as to support the bust and prevent the same from dropping below the brassire.
Another object of the invention resides in knitting a brassiere and a parity as a unitary structure from elastic yarn and plain yarn so as to have a maximum degree of stretch and locating at required points additional elastic strips that 20 cooperate to more effectively flt the brassire of the garment around the body of the wearer.
A feature of the invention resides in providing a pair of spaced elastic strips in the construction of the brassiere so as to stretch the latter tightly 25 around the body of the wearer.
Besides the above, my invention is distinguished in constructing a combination brassiere and panty of a single knitted back section and a single knitted front section cut to required shape and'sewed to complete the panty and the brassiere, and arranging an elastic strip around the entire free edge of the brassiere and an elastic strip at the point of juncture of the brassiere with the parity.
With these and other objects in view, the inven- 35 tion .will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with theaccompanying drawing, wherein:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the undergarment in applied position.
Figure 2 is a diagrammatic view of a portion of the fabric.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-4, Figure 1.
Referring particularly to Figure 1, the garment 45 is illustrated as constructed from a back section fabric (I) and a front section fabric (2) the two fabrics preferably knitted from elastic yarns and plain yarns, as diagrammatically illustrated in Figure 2, the elastic yarns being diagrammatically, illustrated by the heavy lines (3) and the plain yarns being diagrammatically illustrated by the light lines (4).
The back section fabric (I) and the front section fabric (2) are cut to the required shape and seamed, to provide the brassiere (5) and the panty (6). To the free edge ('I) of the brassire, I stitch an elastic strip (8) and this strip passes entirely around the under-garment and has attached thereto the shoulder straps (9)..
A second elastic strip (I) is stitched to the under-garment at the point of juncture of the brassiere with the panty and this strip is only passed part way around the garment so as to have a more eflective contracting action upon the lower portion of the brassire.
The locations of the elastic strips are such that the fabric forming the brassiere is neatly drawn around the body of the wearer and this elastic effect of the strips in conjunction with the elasticity of the body fabrics assures a neat fitting garment; and the contracting of the upper and lower portions of the brassiere around the bust prevents ,the dropping thereof.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
An under-garment comprising an upper section including a brassire and body portion, and a lower section consisting of a pair of panties said sections being connected together as a unit and knitted from interposed plain yarn and elastic yarn, the elastic yarn acting to impart an increased transversal tautness to the entire garment to make the same close form-fitting; an elastic strip extending continuously around the upper edge of the brassiere and adapted to snugly engage the body of the wearer above the breasts to anchor the garment; and a second elastic strip disposed at the connection between the body portion and the brassiere and extending only around the front of the garment to tighten the latter at 7 that point located immediately below the breasts and thus provide a fullness in the brassiere.
