Description

R. T. CLARKE.
GARMENT SUPPORTER. APPLICATION FILED APR.3.1920.
1,3 2,925, v Patented Dec. 21,1920. I
RICHARD r. CLARKE, or COLUMBUS, OHIO.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Application filed April 3, 1920.
T 0 all w/aom itmag concern:
Be it known that-I, RICHARD T. CLARKE, a citizen of the United States, and-a resident of Columbus, in the county of Frank lin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters and more particularly to suspenders of the so-called invisible type,-one object of the invention being to provide simple, convenient and practical six-point suspenders of the type specified whereby the same may be readily connected with all the buttons as commonly spaced apart on trousers for the reception of sus ponder ends, with all of said buttons on the inside the waist band of the trousers.
A further object is to so construct the suspender that the suspender ends shall be held so properly spaced apart when the suspenders shall have been placed in position on the wearer, as to facilitate and render convenient'and easy for the user to connect said suspender ends with the buttons on the trousers when the wearers shirt intervenes between the attaching means on the suspender ends and said buttons.
A further object is to so construct suspenders that the side or hip pull of the trousers is properly distributed over the body and shoulders, thus providing a comfortable support, even if the suspenders be connected with the trousers at two points only.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a view of suspenders embodying my improvements, and Fig. 2 is a detail view.
1, 1 represent the shoulder straps of the suspenders united at their rear ends to a back strap 2.
The lower end portions of the shoulder straps may be folded to provide loops 3 which are adjustable by means of buckles 4. The lower. end of the back strap 2 is also folded to provide a loop 5 made adjustable with the use ofa buckle 6.
Specification 01" Letters Patent.
Patented Deci21, 1920. Serial no. 371,075.
With the two loops 3 at the front ends of the shoulder straps, diverging suspender ends 7 are connected through the medium of metal loops 8 and diverging rear suspender ends 9 are connected, through the medium of a metal loop 10, with the loop 5 of the back strap 2.
The lower ends of the several suspender ends have attaching devices 11 connected thereto, and each of these attaching devices may conveniently consist of a wire loop, each bent to form a portion 12 to permit the passage of a button and a smaller portion 13 to lie behind the taching devices are thus adapted to engage buttons on the trousers of the wearer with the cloth of a shirt intervening. The suspender may therefore be worn inside the shirt so as to be hid by the shirt and therefore invisible.
The lower end portions of the six suspender ends are connected by a strap 14 (to which said suspender ends are permanently secured) adapted to encircle the body of the wearer and to have its ends detachably connected together. To facilitate such connection of the ends of the strap 14 and to ad just said strap to accommodate the person of the wearer, one end of said strap may be formed into a loop 15 adjustable by a buckle 16 and with this loop, a hook 17 is connected to engage a metal loop 18 secured to the other end portion of the strap.
The strap 14 serves to so space the lower portions of the suspender ends apart, that the button attaching loops 11 will become accurately positioned with respect to the trouser buttons when the suspenders shall have been placed in position on the wearer, thus facilitating and rendering easy the operation of connecting said attaching loops with the trouser buttons, notwithstanding the intervention of the material of the shirt. Furthermore, the strap 14 connecting the suspender ends serves to insure proper distribution of the side or hip pull over the body and shoulder strap, and this is especially valuable if the wearer should desire to connect the suspender ends over the hips only with the trousers.
y improvements provide six point attachment invisible suspenders which may be readily connected with the buttons of any trousers, regardless of style, and provide a substantially perfect support for the trousers.
button. The at- Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. In suspenders, the combination with front and rear straps, three pairs of diverging suspender ends connected therewith, and rigid button loops secured to said suspender ends, of a strap permanently secured to the lower portions of the suspender ends above said rigid button loops and permanently spacing them. apart such predetermined distances as to accurately position the rigid button loops relatively to the standard positioning of buttons on trousers.
2. In suspenders, the combination with front and rear straps, three pairs of suspender ends projecting therefrom, and rigid button lbops secured to the suspender ends, of a strap permanently secured to the lower portions of the suspender ends above the button loops and operating to space them apart definite predetermined distances to accurately position the button loops relatively to the standard positioning of buttons on trousers.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RICHARD T. CLARKE.
