CHRISTIAN 3'. WINTER, 0F DUBUQUE, IDWA.
' Application filed June 9,
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that CHRISTIAN J. WINTER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Dubuque, in the county of Duof Iowa, has invented new useful Improvements in Invisible the following and Trouser Supporters, of which is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide 10 a construction of suspenders or trouser supporter which may be worn under the outer or dress shirt for concealment thereby, and in that connection to provide a device which while adequately and comfortably supporting the trousers is adapted to yield readily to the movements of the body of the wearer to avoid straining the garment or causing inconvenience to the wearer; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings,
wherein Figure 1 is a front view of a supporter embodying the invention arranged in the operative position with the wearer and the garment supported thereby indicated in dotted outline.
Figures 2 and-3 are detail views respectively of the front and one of the side attaching means and the adjacent portions of the webbing.
The shoulder straps 10 consisting of elastic webbing Or the equivalent thereof are provided with suitable adjusting buckles 11 and connected at their front ends by an equalizing element consisting of a bar 12 having terminal engagement by means of rings 13 with the slides 14 engaged in the loops of the shoulder straps.
Connected with the equalizing'bar with each of the shoulder straps at its rear end, throu h the medium of a suitable loop- 15, is a clasp 16 constructed of a single blank of wire or its equivalent doubled upon itself at its center to form an attaching eye 17 and having return side arms 18 forming loops with the main stem 19 and terminating in clips 20 adjacent to the transverse plane of the attaching eye 17 and adapted nection afforded 1922. Serial No. 566.995.
for engagement with the buttons attached to the inner surface of the trousers band as indicated. at 21. The clasp which is connected with the equalizing member 12 is adapted to have its clips engaged with the foremost or inner front trousers buttons, the said clasp by reason of the loose con by an attaching eye 17 being adapted to be brought to the outside of the shirt through the front opening thereof. The clasps which are connected with the other or rear ends of the shoulder straps are adapted for engagement with the buttons at the sidesof the trousers band. The shoulder straps are connected at the back of the wearer below the points of bearing on the shoulders of the wearer by a retaining strap 22 having an adjusting buckle 23 for varying the length thereof and having adjustable connection with the shoulder straps by means of slides 24 or the equivalents thereof adapted to slide on and longitudinally of the shoulder straps. This retaining strap, as will be obvious, is intended to hold the shoulder straps in proper positions on the shoulders of the wearer and resist any tendency of the attachment of 1 the rear ends of the shoulder straps to draw the straps outwardly on the shoulders by reason of the connection of their lower ends with the buttons at the sides of the trousers. The elements of the claspsat the closed ends of the loops 16 are engaged by sleeves 25 to hold them in proper relation. I V It will be obvious that the equalizing bar 12 is free to move well as to move bodily so as to compensate for movements of the body of the. wearer and avoid restrictive strains or confinement involving discomfort.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is A garment supporter cated having shoulder straps, an equalizing element connecting the shoulder straps at 9 sides of thegarment the last of said claspsbeing carried by the rear ends of the shoulangularly or to tilt as of the type indider straps, all of said button engaging clasps consisting each of a single blank 01 Wire doubled upon itself at its center to form an attaching eye and having return side arms and an intermediate stein portion parallel with said side arms and forming loops in connection with the latter the side arms terminating in upwardly open clips adjacent to the plane of the attaching eye, and sleeves engaging the loops formed by 10 the side arms to hold said loops in proper relation. with the stem.
In testimony whereof he affixes his signature.
