Description

D. GLICKMAN.
SUSPENDERS. APPLICATION FILED :um: n, ma.
Patented Oct. 11, 1921.
IN VEN TOR. 32:;
ATTORNEYS.
DAVID GLICKMAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS;
SUSPENDERS.
Application filed June 17, 191s.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAvm'GLIoKMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention re ates to garment supporting means of the type known as suspenders,
and the main objects of the invention are to provide an improved form of suspender to ing a belt, either outside-or inside of the trousers or suspenders running over the shoulder; and to provide a suspender adapted to be concealed bythe shirt when worn without coat or outer garment, and requiring but little material for manufacture and I which shall be durable, but inex ensive.
An illustrative embodiment 0 this invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view-showing how the suspender is applied to the garments when in place on the wearer.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of one form of the suspender illustrating this invention.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the.
adjacent parts of the garments with the suspender attached thereto, the latter being shown edgewise.
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the upper end of one of the suspenders showing a modified form of fastenlng.
In the illustrative embodiment shown in the drawings, Figs. 1 to 3, the suspender 1 is of forked shape with the two divergent arms projecting downward from the crotch 2, and comprises a flexible strap or body member of fabric tape, or other suitable material, with a common fastener 3 at the upper or crotch and, and with separate fasteners 4 at the opposite or lower ends of the branches 5.
The fastener 3 is adapted to he detachably connected directly to the undergarment 6, as
shown in Fig. 1, and the fasteners 4 are apertured and adapted to receive the buttons 7 of the trousers 8 as also shown in Fig. 1,
Specification of Letters Patent.

said fasteners 4 being also adapted to receive or accommodate a thickness of the material of the outer shirt 9 between the button and the body of the fastener loop, so that the suspender may be entirely covered and concealed by the outer shirt.
The fasteners 4 are of rigid material and are each formed with a substantially circular button admitting aperture 10 and a notch or socket 11 extending downward therefrom to receive and securely hold the button when the device is in use. In order to better secure the button in the socket 11 each fastener 1 is provided with a hump 12.
The upper fastener 3 is formed and adapted to receive a pinch of garment fabric, whereby it may be fastened detachably to the underwear beneath the outer shirt: For this purpose a wedge shaped aperture 13 is preferred with a narrow pinching slit 14 at the upper pointed end of the fastener to engage a small pinch 9 of the under garment for supporting the s'uspender. In the modified form of device shown in Fig. 4, the upper fastener 3 is providedwith a wider pinch slit 1 1, and a flexible lock tongue 15 having a head 16 is provided, substantially as in some forms of garters,
Although two specific embodiments of this invention are herein shown and described, it is to be understood that no attempt has been made to show all practical embodiments and that numerous details of the constructions shown may bealtered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claim. a
I claim:
- *Trousers supporting means adapted for wearing under the outer shirt comprising a pair of short suspenders secured at their upper ends to a single fastener and disposed at an angle to each other, said fastener being adapted to be pinchingly connected detachably to the under shirt, and a fastener attached to the lower end of each of said suspenders, each of said latter fasteners having alooped part large enough to receive the body of a button and communicating with a downwardly disposed notch, said latter fasteners being adapted to receive trousers buttons with theadj acent part of the outer shirt gri' ped thereby.
