To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MORRIS SCHWARTZ, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Brooklyn, Kings county, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vest-Holders, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.

This invention relates to vest-holders, and

has for its object to provide a device one end.

of which may be applied to a vest, and the other end of which may be applied to an adjacent garment, preferably the trousers, for the purpose of holding the vest down to avoid wrinkling thereof. When in position upon the garments above named the holding device will be concealed.

I will now proceed to described my invention in detail, the novel features of .which will be pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein Figure l is a diagrammatic view showing a portion of a vest and trousers, my improved vest-holder being shown in position, in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is an enlarged face view of my improved vest-holder; Fig. 8 is an edge view thereof, looking from the right in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on a line a-a in Fig. l.

Referring to Fig. 1, the meeting ends of a vest are indicated by l and la, and the meeting members of a trousers by 2 and 2a. The vest member 1a is provided with buttons 3, as is usual and the member l with buttonholes 4. The trousers-members are also provided with buttons 5 and button-holes 6.

As can be seen in Figs. 2 and 3 my improved vest-holder consists of an upper engaging member 7 and a lower engaging member 8, each of said members being provided with slots 9, which are adapted for the passage of the shank of a vest-button, such as is indicated by 3, or for the group of threads which forms a connecting element for the material of the vest, or trousers, and the button, in the event of the vest or trousers being provided with buttons that are sewed on. 'Ihe button 3 herein indicated and illustrated in Fig. 3 is a well known form of metal, pearl or celluloid button which is sewed to the vest. The slot 9 is preferably of the contour shown in Fig. 2,

To relieve the vest button from the entire strain exerted upon the upper member 7 of the holder, by the movement of the body, I provide the said upper member 7 with an auxiliary catch ll pivoted at 11a, the upper end of the catch being turned over to form a hook 12, the said hook being adapted to pass through the hole for the button with which the said upper member 7 may be engaged (see Fig. 4), and to engage the fabric of the vest adjacent the buttonshole. In case the threads securing the button to which the member 7 is applied should become worn or break, the auxiliary catch 11 will hold the device in operative position, as the hook l2, engaging the edge of the button-hole will support the member 7.

As can be seen in Figs. 2 and 3, the members 7 and 8 are connected by a strap 10, which is preferably elastic.

To apply my improved vesthholder, it is but necessary to pass the upper catch mem; ber 7 over the shank of the vest button, and between the meeting ends thereof as shown in Fig. 8. The pivotal auxiliary catch l1 can then be caused to engage the material of the vest, see Fig. 3. After having secured the upper catch 7, the lower catch 8 can be caused to engage a trousers but-ton (see Fig. l).

The length of the slot 9 in the members 8 and 7 precludes any chance of the said members slipping off their engaged buttons when the elastic band 10 is relaxed. The band 10 will give and relax with the movement of the body.
