Be it known that I, ROBERT GEMMELL, a subject of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of the town of Brookline, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention in garment-supporters relates to aloop for attachment of the supporter to a button, stud, or other such like device of Y the clothing of the wearer, and particularly to that ,class of such loops as contain three distinct openings or sections continuous with and opening to each other, and one at one end suitable to freely admit the button, stud, &c., and one at the opposite end suitable to conrain and receive only the shank of the button or studthat is, the part connecting button or stud to the garment-and the intermediate opening suitable to permit the passage of said shank therethrough from the larger to the smaller opening, or vice versa, but only by the exertion of some considerable force, and otherwise to prevent its accidental passa e.

This invention relates to a device for suspending a stocking-supporter from a button or stud of the wearing-apparel, and the device is made of a continuous length of spring wire, that at one end is doubled and formed into a button-loop and thence is shaped into a contracted throat, continued in a buttonreceiving loop which at one end portion has an eye and at the other end portion has a bend directly toward and entered through said eye, continued in a return-bend preferably having an eye that is in engagement with said first bend, all substantially as hereinafter described, and for operation as explained.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a face view of the device of this invention, its button-receiving loop being placed over a buttonwhich is attached to a garment, and said loop is also shown I as secured to one end of a strap forming a part of a garment-supporter, which otherwise is not shown, being as usual or otherwise suitable. Fig. 2 is a similar view to Fig. 1, but withthe button-holding loop of the device on thebutton. Fig. 3 is .an edge View of the device, Fig. 2. Figs. 4, 5, 0, and '7 are face views of the device in modified form, all as hereinafter appear.

In the drawings, A A A are respectively the button receiving loop, the contracted throat, and the button-holding loop of the de vice of this invention. The several loops, as also other parts of the device, as hereinafter appear, are made of a continuous length of Wire and as follows: The wire is first doubled and formed into the button-holding loop A and therefrom bent and formed into the contracted throat A and thence continued and shaped into a button-receiving loop A, having one end portion formed with an eye B" and the other end portion with a bend 0 directly toward and into and through the eye 13, and a return-bend 0, having at its farther end an eye 0 engaging the bend O and all so that one side length B of the device may have a movement toward and away from the opposite side length B, sliding and guided by its eye'B on the side 0 of the double bend C C. The side length B preferably is rigid and shaped to render it so, and the other side length 13 is springy and the wire used for the device is preferably spring-wire.

To secure the device to the button or stud, first place its button-receiving end over the button and then draw the tracted throat'over the connection of button to garment and bring the button into the button-holdingloop, where it is secure from accidental escapement and can only be detached from the device by drawing the device in the opposite direction over the connection of button with garment.

The strap D of garmentsupporter is shown as attached to the bend 0 but obviously it may be similarly attached to the bend O of the device of this invention. This attachment, however, forms no part of this invention.
