Description

(No Model.) I J. M. WEISSMAN.
COMBINED COLLAR, 'BOW, AND BOSOM FRONT. No. 559,425.
Patnted Mayfi, 1896.
UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
JESSE M. \VEISSMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED COLLAR, BOW, AND BOSOM-FRONT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 559,425, dated May 5, 1896.
Application filed February 12,1896- Serial No. 5 79,015. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JESSE M. IVEISSMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in a Combined Collar, Bow, and Bosom-Front, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new article of apparel for ladies wear, consisting in a bosomfront with a collar attached and a bow at the junction of the bosom-front and collar, the collar being variable in length to fit the neck of the wearer, and the straps of the collar passin g around and connecting beneath the how. This is specially intended to be worn with dresses that are constructed without a collar and partially open in front, so that themesent article can be worn when protection is required around the neck and the front portion of the chest. The fabric of which the article is composed will of course vary, so as to be suitable for use with particular dresses or under special circumstances. When used by bicycle-riders, the fabric may be coarse and loose in texture, or the same may be of silk or other ornamental fabric, and usually there will be a lining of suitable fabric, such as silk or satin.
In the accompanying drawings, the improvement is represented in Figure 1 by a perspective view with the parts open previous to application around the neck, and Fig. 2 is a section vertically through the center of the a parts.
'of' suitable width, according to the desire of the wearer. A strap D of flexible material is connected at one end to the back end of the collar at one side, and the strap E is connected at the back end of the collar on the other side, but at the top and bottom edges only, so that the strap D can be passed through the opening at the other end of the collar as the straps are passed in opposite directions around the neck and brought to the front part of the article, and there is an elastic F, preferably adjustable at the end of the strap D, with a ring 2 to engage the hook 3 at the end of the strap E, so that the collar can be easily adapted to different sizes ofnecks, and the straps are passed around to the front, where the ring 2 is engaged with the hook 3.
The bow G is of suitable size and shape and usually ornamental, and it is attached at 4 at its back lower portion and provided with a hook 5 to engage a loop or eyelet upon the front of the collar (3, so that the bow-hook 5 can be disconnected from the loop 6 previous to passing the straps D and E around the neck in opposite directions and hooking the ring 2 upon the hook 3, and then the hook 5 can be made to engage the loop or eyelet 6, so as to cover up the elastic F and the hook 3 and ring 2, thus rendering the entire article ornamental and easily applied and well adapted to use Where the throat and chest require protection. If desired, there may be a belt or strings attached to the lower part of the shield to pass around the body and hold the shield down in place, as illustrated at H.
I claim as my invention- As a new article of manufacture the bosomfront and collar permanently connected together, and the bow fastened at one edge to the collar, and means for securing the other edge, and straps connected to the ends of the collar and passing in opposite directions around the neck, and a fastening device for the ends of the straps, which fastening comes behind the bow so as to be covered thereby, substantially as set forth.
' Signed by me this 10th day of February, 1896.
JESSE M. \VEISSMAN.
