@ ZLO UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LENA SITTIG, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMBINED CLOAK AND SKIRT-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,103, dated January 3, 1893.
Application filed October 12, 1892. Serial No. 448,646. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LENA SITTIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Cloak and Skirt- Protecting Garment; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain improvements in combined cloak and skirt protecting garments, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly described and pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification: Figure 1. is an inside perspective view of the protector showing the belt. Fig. 2 is another inside view of the protector.
Ais the body, and B the skirt of the protector and cloak which is open from top to bottom in front.
a is the belt or band, which may be made with, or separate from the body A.
C represents the inner skirt, which is se cured permanently at the bottom edge to the outer skirt B, and thereby forms the pocket B, to receive and protect the skirts of the dress and under garments. This inner skirt 0 is divided into points 0. c; by cutting out the intermediate parts and thus leaving the points 0, c, at the top of which are button holes to be fastened by buttons Z1. b. on straps d, d, which are suspended from the belt or band a, when the dress and under garments are to be protected in walking. \Vhen not thus used, the points 0, c, are secured to the skirt B, by the buttons I), Z) in the same button holes. Instead of the buttons and button holes any other convenient mode of fastening can be used; such as hooks and eyes, and cords can be used instead of straps d, and a clasp hook can be fastened to the inside of skirt 0. Inside of each part of the outer skirt B, near the bottom, there are buttons 6, e; and on the end G" of inner skirt 0 there are buttons 2", and e'; and a button hole 0. When the garment is not used as a protector, the part 0" is fastened to outer skirt B, by the button hole 0 being secured to the button 6; and the part 0' is fastened in like manner to skirt B by the button hole 0 being secured to the button e.
When, the garment is to be used as a protector, the two parts 0 and C" are brought together in front of the person, and are buttoned together by means of the buttons e", e', on the part 0 and the button holes 0" and 0", thus forming the continuous pocket all around, for the dress and under skirts.
I claim A combined cloak and skirt protector comprising a body A, outer and inner skirts B and O secured together at the bottom and forming a pocket B; said body and skirts being open at front from top to bottom, the inner skirt 0 having upwardly directed points 0. 0. provided with button holes to engage with straps depending from the waist of the wearer or with buttons on the inside of the skirt B; the bottom portion of the inner skirt, at its ends, being parallel with the front edges of the outer skirt and provided with buttons and button holes, adapted to engage with each other, to form a continuous pocket, when the garment is used as a skirt protector, or to engage with complemental fastening means on the inner portion of the outer skirt when used as a cloak as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LENA SI'ITIG.
